Hey all.

Finally got my 240 on the road today, well kind of, using dealer plates to bring it from shop to shop. I redid the brakes (rotors, calipers, pads, a few steel lines) a few months back so today was essentially the first time they were used to stop the car from speed (60+ MPH... ). Basically after I got off the highway I was on I was at my shop, and the brakes were smoking like crazy. Not on fire or anything, just smoking. Is there some kind of brake in period where they will do this, or did I seriously mess something up, or what? I've never seen brakes smoke like that before except on like, Top Gear, haha.

Did you clean the storage grease (cosmoline or w/e its called) off the rotors before installing them? If so, thats OK, just take off and use some brake cleaner on the rotors.

-OR-

Did you have to hammer on the caliper/pads when you fitted them over the rotor at all to make them fit? I hope not...

It was after some stop and go through the city and then my testing in my driveway (about 40 meters long). It was just the first time they stopped from speed. The storage grease was cleaned off, but then it sat for a while and the rotors were getting that layer of nasty surface rust. And no, I didn't have to hammer the pads to get them in. They were brand new, calipers were remanned and working just fine and the slide pins were greased. I know the system is working just fine. What I initially assumed was a storage glue or something similar on the pads themselves was burning off.

Slappy, don't think I'm ignoring you, I just have to be at work in 5 minutes, so I'll read the rest of that ish later.
