Just washed and polished my QX4 today with some Nu Finish. I also used some Armor All Protectant on the faded plastic on the rear bumper and running boards, which worked pretty good! Just don't know how long it will last!

Here's the results of the Nu Finish:

And the results of the Armor All... I forgot to take a before pic of the bumper, but i snapped a before pic of the running board. You can see how faded the plastic was (ignore the darker areas, just water)...

After Armor All on Bumper (you can see the results on the running boards in the first set of pics):

Also freshened up the interior with some of this...

Overall, I'd say the Nu Finish was worth the $9 at Auto Zone. It gave the car a nice glossy shine and left it feeling very smooth to the touch. It didn't remove any swirl marks or anything, so next time i'll probably use something else before hand to remove them. Plus, I only used about 1/4 - 1/3 of the bottle!

Also, the Armor All Protectant really helped with the faded plastic on the bumper and running boards. But, like I said before, i don't know how long it will last!

Let me know what you guys think!

Looks good, I always like to spray the inside of my wheel wells with tire shine ( even though mine are painted black ) it still grays out sometimes and fades, and when your car is all shiney, the wheels too, the greyed out inner wheel wells make it look junky in my opinion but thats why i use the quick-fix.

Where did you get the can of black ice?!?! I love the smell, and i only find the stupid trees you hang around the rear view, never seen it in a can.

that's a good idea with the tire shine! i'll have to try that. i got the can of black ice at Autozone. it was the same price as a 3 pack of the trees ($2.99) so i thought i'd give it a try! here's the link, but it's only available in store:

+1 about the wheelwells miami

I like that black ice in a can but its hard to find! I used nufinish for years but im still unsure if its a wax. Anyways i switched to meguiars products last year, if you use the comound, polish, then wax it does a much better job than nufinish ever did and got rid of most of the swirls.

Your plastic will fade again after a few washes, i used meguiars ultimste protectant on mine it lasted about 2 weeks and is now starting to go back to normal.

I plan on switching to better waxing products next year including getting a professional orbital buffer. The stuff in the stores are more for amateurs, the real good stuff is what turbogst uses (a member on this forum) he posted some amazing pics on a thread i posted a few weeks ago about meguiars stuff.

Stay away from armor all that crap is greasy and ruins your interior after a few years, it dries it out. Dont be a fool to marketing. And it smells horrible too!

Yeah Qxxx4 is right about the armor all, id use it only exterior stuff if you insist on it. I steam clean my interiors once every 3-4 months, and the rest i just keep mine not dirty 24/7 (i also have deep all weather mats in all the cars) and light vacuum, and wipe down leather/plastics/vinyl with Turtle Wax ICE Interior Detailer.

I explained a few things about turtles ice line in the other thread and theres just a great amount of info there, heres the link meguiars-compund-polish-wax-put-to-the- ... 62800.html

Since most people usually do not want to get into it as deep as Turbogst, id definetly recommend the ICE line of products as its what ive been using the past year and a half after i came across it, the spray wax works amazing and its better at hiding scratches and swirls then the nufinish. Also nufinish probably takes you longer, i wax my car 10-15 mins, then take care of other stuff like headlights, black plastic, wheels etc.

Qxxx4: Nu Finish claims that it's the "Only car polish product in the market that contains no wax."... as for the Armor All, I had the bottle of "protectant" sitting on my shelf for years, so i thought i'd finally try it out on something. but, i guess it'll just go back on the shelf for another few years...or in the trash lol. (and you're right, it does smell awful).

miamiheat: i'll have to try that ICE spray wax next time, it sounds good from your description! the Nu Finish took about an hour or more for the whole process. so 10-15 min would be great! lol. i'll also have to try Meguiars PlastX...i saw you mentioned it in the other topic. i noticed some oxidation on my headlights starting, so i want to take care of it before it gets worse.

Make sure you use clean microfibres, take any tags off etc, wash them after one use, and if you ever drop it, wash it before using it again.

Beautiful QX4, I always armor all my exterior as well, I use tire shine on my front bumper though cause it shines better. I also love the smell of black ice as well, I keep a can in my cup holder, and whenever the smell fades in my Pathfinder I spray it all over the place again. Heck, I think I'll spray it on myself next time it smells so good.

Tire foam works well on the engine, too. After you clean it of course...

I recommend not using tire foam on the engine, as yes it will make it "shine" after you wash/clean it, but it attacts dirt and other stuff like hell.

Instead of that i use Engine Brite - Engine Protectant, you can get it at any walmart for a few bucks, and after its clean, spray it on, and wipe off excess, it gives the engine plastics/hoses a more satin shine finish, versus the wet and slimey of tire foam, and it doesnt attract the dirt and dust like the foam stuff does, also doesnt leave it greasy to the touch after it drys properly.

Edit - And for anyone interested on how to wash your engine, personally i use Purple Power Citrus Cleaner

Image

Its cheap i think $2 or less for a good sized bottle, and doesnt contain any harmful crap. It works great on wheels also, spray it on, agitate with a wheel brush, and rinse off.

For the engine, i spray a good amount everywhere, agitate it in some spots that may be more greasy/dirty whatever, then i take a power washer, i hold it farther away, dont go shoving it in to things real close cause you'll mess them up, but it doesnt dump huge amounts of water all over the bay like a regular hose, just enough to get all the citrus cleaner, and crap out to make it clean, then detail it with the stuff above.

That's cool if you don't recommend it...but I do...after it sets for a little while I just wipe it down and it looks like a new penny. No dust or dirt problems for me....to each his own.
