NTB16-027a - Dealer wants $350+tax for repair. Doesn't seem right.

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

My fiancee's car (2013 Nissan Sentra SR, 65k miles) threw an check engine light over the weekend. The code is a P0101. I researched the code and found this is an issue with the PCV valve (please see TSB NTB16-027a https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/ ... 8-2280.pdf). Replacing the part is very simple, but the car's ECM needs to be re-programmed.

Tynan's Nissan Aurora is refusing the honor the repair as they are saying it's a billable issue since it's outside the PowerTrain warranty. The service guy I spoke with mentioned the repair would be $350+ tax.

This does not seem right as the defective part is causing the issue. Does anyone have any experience getting issues like this covered under warranty? I see there is an 8-year/80,000 warranty, but the guy I spoke with is saying that this won't be covered.

How should I proceed to get this covered? I'm very frustrated about this. Thanks for any tips. I'm very emotional about this, but figure I should calm down and devise a plan to work my way up the chain to try to get this covered.

Did you change anything right before the check engine light came on, air filter?

I believe that's a vacuum leak code. Check the intake hose between the throttle body and air filter. Make sure there's no cracks in it. I believe I threw that code on my 2012 Quest and that was the problem.

The PCV is easy to remove, if you take it off and shake it and it rattles, then it should be fine.

How often do you change your oil?

You can change the PCV yourself with a pair of pliers and save your money. It's not that tight and will probably unscrew by hand once you loosen it.

Remove hose and unscrew PCV, screw new in one, replace hose and that's it.
