Its folded in the compartment like so. You inflate it with a can of air or something and wallah, full size spare!

Pontiac did the same in the 60s:http://www.oakmediacreations.c....html

A lot of owners take it out. Usual justification is AAA coverage.

Without the spare, I guess it would become decent trunk space for a carry-on size bag. Thats about enough for 5 days of clothing.

when you get up close, the ABS componentry takes up a lot more space thanit looks like. you'd be hard pressed to fit a large bag of rold gold pretzels.

He is correct. It's a very strange area up there, pretty much perfectly spaced to hold a spare - and that's it.

On the other hand, Acura sold a matched set of Pravda (or Gucci, maybe?) luggage that fit perfectly into the boot. Too bad they go for about 4k.

You'd think that Samsonite is more the Honda type of luggage.

Didn't Porsche have a few models that came with a flat repair kit rather then a spare?

That no wear near as wierd looking as the Subaru Loyal wagons that had pretty much the same spare tire placement, only since it was FF the spare sat on top of the engine...

The M3 doesn't have a spare, it has a "kit". Basically if you get a flat in the M3 you call BMW Roadside assistance. They bring a loaner to you and truck your BMW to the dealer.

Personally I think it's ridiculous. I can change a spare tire, and if I wanted to really save those few extra pounds, I'd take it out. It'd be nice to have it in case you get a flat in boofoo.

you could buy one, right? just strap it down in your trunk.

like you said, take it out when you want less weight.

I take it they don't come with a jack either?

I <3 Ice Cream Grade

On a side note four kids died on that road my freshman or sophmore year of high school on the fourth of July. Only one that survived was the driver and now he's in jail for a long time. One of the dead kids was a senior football star so it was a big deal.
