Hello Nico! I have just finished up my catch can install and wanted to share it with everyone. I thought about using an air compressor filter, but found a really neat Oil/Air separator from Moroso, and picked that up. Then, my project evolved from just an air/oil separator into a total overhaul of the oiling and cooling system. I bought a Zirgo electric fan, a Canton Racing remote mount oil filter, a B&M oil cooler, and a bunch of hoses and hose ends from Earl's Performance. I ended up ordering the wrong size hose for the oil system, so the oil filter and cooler aren't hooked up yet, but they are installed. Then I fabricated some aluminum mounts and fan shroud, and had them powder coated to match the dark accents on the car, like the headlights and grill. Let me know what you think!

Not the best pictures sorry, all I had with me was my Moto Droid. My next project will be a real intake tube, and I would love to tuck the engine bay like the Honda boys, but I hate wiring, so we will see about that... The oil/air separator is plumed in to a manifold that has 4 hoses, 2 running to each valve cover. I used the stock PCV valves, and drilled and tapped the other vents on the valve covers. After the separator, the air is routed back into the intake tube in the stock location. This will provide all the crank case evacuation I need at the moment. But, I set it up so I could plumb in a vacuum pump if I ever need to. By the way, getting rid of the dumb hydraulic fan has to be my favorite mod so far, it freed up so much space, and probably freed up some HP as well. The hydraulic pump is built into the water pump, I tried fitting a Nissan Titan water pump, which does not have the hydraulic pump, but it was about 1/2" too short, and the pulley didn't line up. SO I just drained the hydraulic fluid an plugged the holes.

wow nice - interested in hearing more about those "home-made" intake mods that you might have. NOt sure if a catch-can is a must for the M35 06 and above. Unless the M35 have really bad pluming or the PCV valve is absolutely garbage, i just dont see a need for it. Though it's definitely cool to have mods :)

The stock hydaulic fan is a complicated and heavy set up. It has a pump, an oil cooler, a hydraulic motor, a fluid reservoir, and a bunch of tube. And, it takes a few HP to spin that pump! So I emptied the pump, pluged the holes, removed the lines, reservoir and cooler. Then built a shroud out of 3/4" angle aluminum and aluminum plate, it bolts on in place of the stock plastic shroud. I also built in a mount that houses the adjustable temp contoller and probe. After installing the fan, the butt dyno says I gained some HP and saved a bunch of weight and room! The downside is the noise, the Zirgo fan moves 3000cfm, and it sounds like it.

Thank you, the M45 sucks a lot of oil through the valve covers and into the intake. It really should be a requirement on these cars. The intake is just a filter and MAF adapter I picked up at O'reily Auto Parts, only spent $30 on them. Don't know if it did much for power, but it sounds good

yeah from the look of it, you're sucking in lots of hot air :) so doubt it'll make any different. One thought is to either make some "air feed" from either underneath the car or from the bumper so the intake is constantly getting cold air OR you can do a heat shield to protect against hot air from surrounding area.

i agree. OP, you're taking in way too much hot air once the car heats up. you should custom make an extra PVC pipe and shove the intake down towards the bottom of the car where it can get fresh air. that's what i did on my M and its constantly drawing in cold air. only down side is i cant drive the car in the rain. :frown:

unless you're going thru frikin 2 feet of water or a puddle, you'll be ok with the intake extending down near the bumper. but at any rate, hydro lock is a serious issue so don't go and test to prove me wrong ;)

I knoe the intake isn't ideal, it will be my next project. Although I have been kicking around the idea of supercharging it with an m90 or an M112 from a Mustang. So that might end up being my project instead.

Looks like a very clean install. I wonder if having the backside of the radiator sealed off like that hinders cooling air from naturally flowing through it at speed though? Almost seems like it effectively reduces the functional square inches of cooling to just the area of the radiator where the fan is mounted???

This was one of my concerns when building it, if I should go with a shroud or mount the fan on the radiator. I ended up modeling the shroud after the stock fan shroud. This is my first electric fan install though, so anyone with experience running with and without a shroud that can chime in would be appreciated!

No worries! :bigthumb: I didn't mean for my post to sound like that, I was just thinking out loud. I love the perspective and ideas you guys bring! I really want to supercharge my M45, it doesn't look like it would be too hard either...hopefully my wife will let me do this to my daily driver!

Yep, I have an awesome wife! Luckily she doesn't worry too much about mpg, she came from a family that loves big block chevys, so anything over 12mpg is good! This is an Eaton M112 from a Mustang Cobra, thought it would be a good fit since they have a similarly sized engines.

Quick update, I finally got the -10AN hose I needed to plumb in the remote mount oil filter and oil cooler. I put the hoses together and filled it up with 7 quarts of Royal Purple, and took it for a drive. Runs smooth, I think it likes the cooler oil temps! This should keep the oil temps in check when the supercharger goes in.

Its gonna happen for sure  Might take a while since I have some other priorities at the moment. But, I talked to one of my friends that has CAD experience today, we are going to start designing the flanges I need to mount the supercharger, throttle body, and idler pulley this week. Hopefully I can have them made In a few weeks, then I have to put together a meth injection system, and get it to the dyno for tuning.
