We've traveled the country together... and until last year my 93 240 ran like new. Sure, she showed some age mostly from the Maui sun... but last month in the dead of a Spokane winter, her clutch went... and shortly after fixing that problem... she began to shudder... shake and shimmy in the most un-sexy way... I mean like a cheap hotel vibrating bed... in idle and drive. The clutch repair just about maxed out my bank accout... any ideas on what this problem might be? Thanks to all who answer.

misfiring would cause the engine to shake all of the time like that.

check to make sure all your cylinders are firing by pulling spark plug wires with the engine running, one at a time and then replacing them. if the idle gets worse, that cylinder is fine. if it doesnt change the idle when one wire is disconnected, youre not getting fuel or spark on that cylinder

yea does the car feel like it has significantly less power? If you are still on the original fuel injectors, i would almost guarantee that is the problem. I have replaced numerous ones on all the 240's I have owned. They seemed to all go bad with in 6 months of each other. Keep in mind these were all high mileage cars.....170k + miles.

So I would agree with d!ck, check spark and fuel first. A relatively cheap fix if that is the problem.
