Now Nissan is recalling a half a million trucks and cars. Fortunately for us the recall does not involve the Versa. Do you think maybe the Toyota thing has all the other companies running scared and they're a little more willing to actually issue recalls?

It could be.

I do know Toyota effed up by knowing about the recall over a year ago, but not actually calling it until now, after all that had come of it. They really could have prevented alot of the casualties from the cars if they had called it earlier.

And with them having 3 recalls it seems pretty bad. I like how their new commercials are Toyota techs talking about how they trust Toyota and how great their cars are.

Why does it seem like nobody can build a decent vehicle anymore? Come to think of it, I randomly browse the other Nico forums (Rogue, Altima, etc) and it seems those cars have even more problems than the Versa but cost way more. Seems a bit backwards to me...

Perhaps but I just think it's coincidence. There's been two major earthquakes in recent months, just one of those things.

Recalls have been going on for many decades. There is simply more media, internet, phones and everything so that these can be sensationalized.

Cars now adays are built far better than their counterparts from decades past were ever built. I remember when you had to change sparkplugs, ignition parts every 12,000 miles. Tires lasted 15,000 miles, if that.

Cars today, because of their galvanized steel construction are practically rust free. It used to be your car would rust within a few years, people had to undercoat and even then it was dicey. Unless you lived in the southwest, CA or such, all cars rusted, some badly.

Most cars today need only gas and oil changes for the first 36,000 miles and are far more reliable. With computer design and advancements in mettalurgy and engineering, engines are much more efficient and have much tighter tolerances.

They are much safer than cars of the past with airbags and crumple zones.

Cars today leak less, emit hundreds of times less pollution, are safer, brake better, handle better, and come with more options than ever.

Today's cars, for the most part, are far more than decent.

Indeed, more sophisticated systems can cause issues. I love the designs of the 40's 50's and 60's. But I'll take the reliability and far less maintenance of today's vehicles. A '55 Belair body and modern chassis and engine...I'll take it!

As long as they still make basic no-frills cars in the future, I'll be happy. I don't prefer to have a car with a thousand gadgets on it. I see it as more to break. Power locks, windows, and cruise are all I want out of a car and the Versa does that! No 4 wheel drive vehicle with power seats, remote/push button start, sliding sun-roof, headlights that turn with the steering (but that is kinda cool), steering wheels that electronically telescope in and out when you turn the car on or off, etc.
