I got a tempting offer from my local dealer...

An '07 SL hatch, 6MT, with ABS only... Invoice BEFORE rebate... plus 500 rebate AND special financing...

Not my first choice of colors, but my second choice...

Tempting... very very tempting...

Should I?

Hmmm...sounds like a good deal. When you say, "ABS only" does that mean there are no other options on the car (maybe something you wanted)? Did you want the 6MT or were you leaning toward the CVT? Saving money on the initial purchase is always good, but if you're making too many compromises you may regret it later. I could probably live with a different color, but if I really wanted an option that the car didn't have like Bluetooth or something, it would bug me the entire time I owned it. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Consider the tradeoffs. If you wanted black and get some other color, it would be much more difficult to make any modifications that you would have to color match. Black is standard enough where you don't have that problem. And, if you wanted the convenience package and don't get it, how much more would you want it later? Could something like that be retro fit?

personal opinion, don't do it. spending more up front to get what you want will save you later on.

(I'm still kicking myself for not getting the sport package).

The reason for wanting the Convenience package is for the iKey and the bluetooth. It would also be nice because I'd go back to having a factory XM unit installed, controllable by the steering wheel controls.

(Oddly enough, it was also the steering wheel controls for the stereo that also drove me nuts because if I wasn't paying attention to hand position while turning, I'd change the channel or skip a track)

Bluetooth is less critical now that there are almost a dozen bluetooth stereo headunits available these days. The iKey would be nice, but the SL still has a keyless entry, which is good enough.

matt_a: I wanted the 6MT, told the dealership not to bother calling me if they got a CVT. ABS only is exactly that: the only package on it is ABS. Well, it's also got floor mats and splash guards, but those I don't really consider "option packages".

LOL...Yeah, I don't either. Floor mats and splash guards should be standard equipment. The Convenience Package is really nice to have. My wife spends a lot of time on her phone (for work) while driving. I had installed an aftermarket Bluetooth hands-free kit in her last car. It worked OK, but the system in the Versa works and sounds MUCH better. The iKey is really nice too.I guess that's my point. While it would be nice to save some money upfront, you might regret it later. Sometimes it's best to spend a little more and get what you really want.

Invoice less $500? I'd say take it. It's got ABS which is the one feature the V really needs with it's poor non-ABS braking performance.

No, don't get it because I want it. ... The race is on to see who gets there first. u-> me->

Of course, you should get it. Just think of the accessories you could get with the $$$ you saved.

In 5 years, you won't care whether it's an 07 or an 08. And there'd be no waiting. It'd be sittin' in the driveway this weekend. Just do it.

I placed the call to my guy at the dealer. He was on another test drive... supposed to have called me back by now, but I imagine if he was making a deal to someone else, he might be a bit occupied...
