Noticeable tick in the front of the valve cover

I just bought a 96 240sx SE 5-speed. I had to replace the clutch and some small things but the only thing that is giving me a hard time is trying to find out what the tick is in the front of the valve cover. I was told by a good friend of mine who knows his KA's that was a bar in the front of the valve cover and that after a lot of miles and some hard driving that it will start to rattle. If anyone has any idea of what it is or knows how to fix it let me know.

He is talking about the upper chain guide that is no longer needed. Pull the valve cover and remove it... that is it if has not already been chewed up and is sitting in the oil pan somewhere.
