Just a notice to all Rogue owners out there, especially if you have an earlier model.

I've found a water leak inside my rear hatch this week. I brought it into the dealer and they identified the 3rd (high mount) brake light is leaking around the gasket.

The dealer found a similar issue with another Rogue and attempted to repair it by replacing the gasket to no avail. It appears that the light housing may have warped slightly (age, heat possibly) resulting in the leak. The permanent fix is to replace both the 3rd brake light assembly and gasket.
Nissan curiously has revised the part number for the light. Either because they switched mfg's or possibly a design change. No one knows for sure.

To see if you have this problem, look for the following:

- Water drops on the inside of the rear glass.
- Water accumulation on the inside of the cargo area, especially near the latch area.

If you do, get it addressed immediately before the water finds its way into the cargo area. Hopefully you still have some warranty remaining.

Currently there is no tech bulletin for this issue. It's a relatively minor one so far as this dealer has only had one other Rogue with the same problem.

Sounds like this will probably turn into the next tsb or recall. Thanks for sharing!

Cool, that means I will be able to find a spare third brake light more easily now.
As for now, Recyclers want to sell me the whole gate just for me to get the light.

Philip, No chance, you kept the old faulty light?

Pescakl1,

I haven't replaced it yet as I am undecided on how I'm going to repair it. I will let you know if do decide. A new LED 3rd brake light is near $180 CDN... twice as much as the US vendors.

If they replace it under warranty/recall, what are they doing of the faulty one?

Instead of throwing it in the garbage, you could ask if you can have it. I don't want you to buy it, just hoping to get it for cheap, instead of going in the garbage.
I don't know the manufacturer policy for recalls.

Pescakl,

No warranty for me. 127,000km on the odometer... warranty ran out long ago.

If I decide to repair it, it's coming out of my own pocket.

Wow, sucks.
But if it is a recall, you should be able to get it done for free, no?

Anyway, I had the rear gate flushing water on me once, but I did not die from it, so...
If there is a recall about it, I will try to deal something with the dealer.

I had this problem during the winter but it was once and nothing happened after that. I think we could easily put some silicone around it and should be good to go?

I thought about that. But I wouldn't use silicone, RTV windshield sealant is a better idea.

I may just try the gasket first as it's like $15.

If I need to do a whole replacement light, I may just source one from a US dealer... at HALF the price!
