I'm at my brother's graduation. An HHS regional director went into a half-hour long detailed speech praising the president for healthcare reform. I walked out and waited in the hall for her to finish. Nothing worse than people who abuse a captive audience.

You should have paid closer attention. She obviously knows more about healthcare reform than those that listen to Faux News

What a jerk. I despise people who are determined to impose their political views on people every chance they get. There's a time and a place for everything, learn which is when or just don't open your mouth at all.

Speaking of people who say stupid things at inappropriate times...

So, how would you know this, Howie? Were you there?

Who's the bigger idiot - Someone who completely discounts a news source because of some perceived (and likely non-existent) "bias", or someone who blindly applauds the unheard commentary, delivered in an inappropriate venue, of a person 2,000 miles away?

The great part of that is, you don't have to decide - You're both people. Oops. :)

Side note: Jesda, I'd be filing a complaint with the school board. Let me guess: There was no discussion of religion at this little ceremony, right? Good. Politics is equally inappropriate.

I wonder how long it would have taken me to get thrown out. I'm guessing that standing up and interrupting her would have been frowned upon, but the older I get, the less I give a damn.

so you walked out of your brothers graduation :dblthumb: you went a long way to make a point, huh. I probably would've done the same thing if someone starting tea bagging Sarah Palin and how she is the best thing since fox news

The intellectual capacity of the peanut gallery is astounding.

Credit, though, for at least knowing that a HS graduation ceremony is no place to spew political rhetoric, so I guess it evens out. ;)

Any topic that's politically motivated has no place in a graduation IMO. Even if it were something that mirrored my exact beliefs I'd have to agree that it isn't appropriate. Although I'd watch Sarah tea bag someone else :yesnod

This is very similar to when Obama spoke at the University of Michigan's graduation, which I will have to admit was a good speech topic wise. However, our governor took the opportunity and the majority of her speech was political. You don't make political speeches whenever you want. There's a time and place, apparently this country has forgotten that just because you can doesn't mean you should.
