Nothing comes on at idle...whats wrong???

okay so my car sometimes wont start, sometimes will start. Sometimes it needs jumped to start, and sometimes it dies while im driving it. When my 240 finally does start nothing comes on at idle. the instrument panel, dome light, and heater/ac all do absolutely nothing. But then when i give it some gas and get the revs up, everything comes on and stays on even while the car is idling. What could this be? Its like i start the engine then have to rev it up a bit to get everything else to kick on, but once they are on, they stay on. What could cause problems like these????

Something is loose somewhere in your wiring. I would be taking a look at your ignition, ie where your key goes in. Theres no definite way to find out exactly where but I think that would be a good place to start looking.

Could well be a bad battery or corroded terminal connectors at the battery posts.

what about my alternator?

Also, as i rev my engine my dome light will occasionally act like its gettin a surge becuz it will get really bright for a split second.

if you get more electrical power when you rev, that suggests it is not the alternator. are your lights brighter with the engine on?
