Notch Top Main Bearing Caps Differences... ????

Basically I got two motors both Notch Top S14's but the Main Caps look different???

Can someone tell me what year these caps would be and why their different?

I hope they didn't just sell me a S13 bottom with S14 Top.

is that possible?

My S14 caps look like the top one, all solid. Never seen S13 caps before though.

I dont know what that bottom cap is off of but my s13 cap looks like the top one as well

I mean since you have the bottom apart why not just replace them with the correct ones. They just might be the correct caps for that year or were replaced with a more recently available cap. It looks a bit bigger, gtir main cap maybe? Are you rebuilding?

They also have different girdle, crankshaft.

I think I got an S15 Block, so far I found a picture of a SR16 with the same caps. and that motor was produced in 97-98.

Yup,

Basically my first motor (the cap on the bottom of the picture) the oil pump failed and as a result #2 rod broke apart and created a hole in the side of the block.

So I purchased another S14 motor and I'm taking that one apart to get a fresh rebuild done and come to find out the bottom looks different.

Their also the same exact size just the one on the bottom feels lighter due to less mass.
