First of all let me say that at the moment i have done a good bit of researching the internet to find the answer to my question ka24de-t or sr20det. I've found the answer i'm choosing ka24de and adding the t later. I'm almost done with school and for right now don't know were me degree is going to take me, by that i mean i don't know what state i will end up in. If i end up in a state with emission rules similar or close to CA then I wouldn't want to go through the headache of getting it inspected. Then the next thing that helped me make the decision was my inner adult compromising with the kid in me, by this i mean realizing that after i'm done rebuilding the 240sx i want to keep for a long time so i don't want too many issues that will take time and much money to resolve. Since the KA was offered to the U.S. market that means easy tracking down of parts. People can say one motor is better than the other, but at the end of the day it depends on your budget and the other guys budget. If you are willing to spend the money then you can make a KA better than joe's SR if you have more money to play with or vice versa.

Sorry for the long intro but now for what i came here for originally and that was to ask around how much i may spend rebuilding a KA and getting it ready for boost. Yes you can tell me to search, but the last KA that came out of 240sx that would swap easily into another 240 has to be at least 10 years old and once again my inner adult is telling me to play it safe. If i want to get 350rwhp out of it and don't want to worry about whether or the motor can handle it I might as well rebuild it. Also it's 2009 the economy is f***ed so that means prices somewhere in this equation have to have gone up. So anyone with recent experience with how much i should be looking to spend would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

If you are looking to boost, you should ask this question in the KA-T section, not that you won't get good answers here, but its the more appropriate forum.Obviously you're looking for reliability on a turbo KA- don't skimp on tuning. Get a decent tune on an engine and it shouldn't matter too much how old the bits inside are. Within the KA world there are plenty of people who designate the KA as a disposable engine (turbo it until it blows, who cares, its cheap) and that's fine. But you're obviously looking long-term and I commend you for it- so get a freshly rebuilt engine, turbo and tune it (assuming no CA emissions crap), and enjoy.
