She still needs a couple of tweaks but we just wanted to make sure she runs. :mike

Still have to loom the wiring and hook up the exhaust, snug down the motor mounts, put on the air cleaner, run a proper fuel filter, and do a few more things.... but WOW.

It's still the original block, but now with 2 liters of displacement. Basically, we almost doubled the horsepower AND added a 5-speed.

Should do the hula... I'll find out tomorrow. :)

Sounds pretty good without the exhaust hooked up That'll be an awesome little sleeper with the added ponies. :dblthumb:

Dang, she sounds amazing!

On a side note, those pictures of Marilyn and that model are some of my favorite automotive pictures of all time.

Holy crap, she was quick with the stock 1600 and can't-find-any-gear-because-there's-no-synchros stock transmission. She oughta fly now.

Well, neither did I, but it felt a bit like the shifter was connected to a bowl of jello, even when in gear. :P

It's been many many years since I drove a Datsun roadster, but I seem to recall they did have synchros, but each example I drove used to grind (protest) a bit if you shifted too quickly between 1st and 2nd. I had assumed that was due to hard use by the previous owners trying to coax speed out of them. I also remember the pedals were well positioned for heel/toe.

All Datsun transmissions since 1963 are full synchro (I'm sure there are a few rare exceptions). Obviously, many of the early ones don't have a 1g synchro (unnecessary).

The shifter bushings on the old one were shagged. Speaking of shagged transmissions, my buddy and I used to run around in a 710 wagon in high school with no clutch. It was easier to learn to drive it without the clutch, than it would have been to have it repaired. :)

So true, the slave cylinder on my old flatbed recently emptied itself of fluid during a trip to New Hampshire and I had to drive part of the way without a clutch. Rev matching FTW. :dblthumb: Of course, you can't do that kinda thing now with CVT''s.
