im a newbie, but ive searched for anwsers to my question. but no one eles seems to have this problem? when i first start my car up when its cold (ka24e) there is a loud noise coming from the top of the motor close to the firewall, which is why i dont think that its the timing chain, also the oil light stays on for about 2 -3 sec. then when the ooil light goes out the sound goes away. while im driving theres a sound that sounds like metal to metal contact coming from the same place but only between 2.5-3.2 k RPM not below and not after. any response would be great .

yes theres plenty of oil in the car along with heavy duty oil stabilizer ( i use mobil high mile synthetic blen 10w-400) but i burn a little oil about 1/2 quart every 3-4 weeks. im lookin for a ka-e to build up but no junkyards around here have one. any additional help would be appreciated

eh, stay away from additives for the oil. they all have a bad rap.

for the metal to metal between 2.5 and 3.2, check your exhaust heatsheilds. all of them.

for the loud tapping noise, maybe a lifter sticks a little bit?

the heatsheilds are loose but thats been goin on for a while im used to that sound, the sound at 2.5-3.2 is the sound that i get at start up just not as loud. do u think it could be a bad oil pump or clogged oil galleys? if oil galley is the wrong word i mean place were the oil goes up to the head... :-\... i was also looking at just buying a rebuild kit with some ross or weisco pistons so i can turbo it. i was wondering if anyone knew the strength of a stock ka-e rod. thanks

pretty strong. ka's have forged crank and rods from what I hear.

someone on this board put down 460-something horsepower on a stock bottom I think. but that was a de.

the 300zxTT has 300bhp stock. If you had a 275 whp 240sx, it would demolish the 300zx stock, since the 240sx (assuming it's an s13) is almost 800 pounds lighter.
