well, on my way to turboing, I had to get an air filter. I got it off ebay and it didn't really fit that well. Neither did it come with instructions.

I bought the car with an allready replaced engine from nissan. My problem is that I dunno wat engine it is.. It is a 1990 240sx hatch that i think came with a sohc.

1] how can I tell if the DOHC has been swapped in, without removing the valve cover?

I also noticed that there was a wire thingy connected to the MAF that went to the stock airbox. Inside the airbox the wires turned into what looked like some sort of capicitator. I unplugged the extra wires when I removed the stock box and it ran fine w/ no engine warning light turning on.

2] Is it really ok to run w/o that wire/capacitator thingy? HEre is a diagram [sorry a bit innacurate].

that sensor in your airbox is an air temperature sensor. With it removed, your timing curve will not be optimal. Some people have stuck resistors in place of the sensor but this does not send your ecu a variable temperature reading.

If the engine is dohc it will say twin cam on the valvecover, and not have fins like the sohc.

wow quick reply.. i love this forum... Any ways, is the temp inside the airbox cooler than in the engine bay? If i have the temp sensor just sitting in the engine bay do i have a chance of running to rich or lean? Oh yeah, without the air temp sensor the timing will be retarded... excelent! that will help when i turbo the car.

Sorry to sound like an *******, but if you don't know what the air temp sensor does or what it looks like, and needing instructions to install a pod filter, you shouldn't be turboing your KA.

tis true. need to read up a bit. You don't want the timing retarded because the ecu isn't giving you the right temp signal... thats going to hurt you gasmileage and power for now. why not just leave it plugged in? also a quick search of pictures would quickly reveal which engine you have, the two engines really look nothing alike.

Assuming the valve covers haven't been modified, the SOHC has a black valve cover. the DOHC has a light golden colored cover.

Mine has a crappy looking, dirty brown with black smudges all over. Maybe I have a special version... :D

So sorry... just had to take that one.

haha ok ok.. ill show all u people that even some1 as challenged as me can make a good turbo KA :)

First off.. I thought it needed instructors cuz no matter how i tried it only 3 holes lined up. So I had to find a thin screw to go throw the obstructed hole. Also it didnt come with any screws/nuts so i had to use the screws from the stock airbox and I had to tear the nuts from the metal thing in the airbox. I dunno, maybe u think im pretty dumb just cuz i had trouble installing this thing but jeesh iI expected it to just bolt up.

And i was just asking if the temp sensor also controls the air fuel ratio aside from timing. Another reason i was wondering why it didnt have instructions was because the damn thing didnt seem like it as even made for the car and i didnt know wat the hell to do with the temp sensor!!! Theres no damn hole to stick it into!!!

ok sorry people i realize i made a bit of a mistake or watever.. this probably doesnt even belong in this forum...

thanks for ur replies

andrave, when u said' why not just leave it plugged in? '

do u mean just leave it dangling by the filter?i guess ill just have to tape it to the filter for now...

I know alot of people who have left temp sensors dangling with 350+hp motors under the hood. Try to atleast have it in some kind of airflow. Not just tucked under near the manifold.

Everybody has to start somewhere nikn. Your better off asking questions that some of us would consider naive, then not asking and damaging your motor. Feel free to keep on posting, most decent members will offer some suggestions.

I just remember when I was a noob to boost, I ended up blowing my first RB20 within the first 3 weeks of me tinkering...lol.
