I been searching for a manual 91~94 240sx hatch within 100 miles of my zip code, on recycler and autotrader since mid january. I spent about 50$ on 2 months of carfax so far and maybe another $50 on gas to look at cars. I checked out about 6 s13 hatchs all with frame damage, body damage, alignment problem or mostly engine problem (cel is on) I initially want to get s13 because I read some reviews that it's a very balanced chassis and one of the cheapest rwd around. I initially wanted to swap a sr20det but oh wait, the s13, s14, s15's srdet, even though with same engine code, they have quite a different engine spec, for some reason, what's especially confusing is the black top/red top, something about black top being vvt? I found that the s15 sr20det, being around 250hp with a 6 speed transmission is about 6500$ installed after labor.

Assuming that I want to spend no more than 7000$ after labor to achieve 250hp (at the flywheel) without raising the boost, what swap would be best? I know there are RB, KA and other engines... and how come no one ever mention the sr20dett?

I don't want to play with the cams, performance valves, piston or bore anything. I just a stock swap that I can drive happily in maybe 1 or 2lb over stock boost.

give me your suggestions

doing some searching over in the SR forum would help.

has a sticky with all the engine difference between the 13, 14 and 15.

For what you want, you will be looking right at or slightly over 7 grand to have someone install an S15 SR which should produce 250 at the crank. You're better off, though going with a whp figure as a goal as opposed to a crank number because you don't want to be guessing what your power is
