I was driving my car back to my barracks parking lot this past weekend when it unfortunately sputtered to a stop. Upon further investigation I discovered that my exhaust cam gear had come off the pin but not completely off the bolt so it was just spinning there in place. I had it towed back to my parking lot (thank you triple a) and retimed everything. I was confident this would fix everything since I heard no loud crashing or smacking sounds at the time the engine gave out. Unfortunately for me this did very little to remedy the problem. I can turn it over by hand and feel compression in the cylinders but when I try and start it I get nothing unless I hold the pedal to the floor and even then its a very slow rough idle on what sounds like 2 cylinders and an unmistakable smell of fuel. After pulling the plugs only to find them fouled out from fuel I cleaned them and retried. It almost fired but then the same thing. Could a valve be unseated or bent and just dumping fuel into the engine? Im lost and about to replace the whole head and hope that was it so I no longer have to walk to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.
