Hello, i have a 98 240sx. The service engine soon light came on the other day and I pulled the code but it is not listed in the chilton book. The code that keeps coming up is 0215. Has anyone had this problem, can anyone help me out? I just replaced the spark plugs and I found out that they were really white which would mean I am running lean. I seem to be getting better gas mileage--350miles to the tank Before I was getting 300M/T. i think the spark plug issue is related to the light. somethings scriged. Any ideas????????? Thanks

How did you get that code? Did you get it from the led light on the ECM?

P0215 Engine Shutoff Solenoid Malfunction

OBDII codes are standardized and this is what I came up with.

Thanks guys, I got the codes by turning the ECU to mode 2 and counting the blinks on the dash. I have read about the led light on the ECM but have not found it yet. I looked all around the ECU but nothing. The dash works fine. I looked up nissan's OBD2 codes and found that 0215 also means evap valve control. What does the evap control valve do, would it screw with the A/f mixture and make my car run lean?

Evap is the evaporization emissions control... gasoline has a low heat of vaporization (which is why it's a good fuel) which causes it to vaporize at normal ambient temps. So the vapor, rather than just being vented into the air, is routed through a tube to the evap canister (aka charcoal canister) where they are stored to later be injected into the intake manifold and be burnt.

The Evap Control Valve is the round plastic piece that sits on top of the evap canister and has 3 lines running from it.

The Evap Valve error won't change your a/f's.
