Welcome Dennis.

You have a fault in the security system of the vehicle.

The most common cause is a bad key, but that is by no means a guarantee. Given the age anythings possible.

For security reasons around the construction and operation of this system I will not be able to tell you more about this but there is just about nothing you (the owner) can do without special hardware that can evaluate the computer.

Your best bet is to a have it towed to the pros or try calling a locksmith.

Ha! My car has been at the local shop as I had it towed to them a month ago with the same symptoms. My I30 cranks but doesn't start...and the mechanic is scratching his head over it....do I need to go to an infiniti dealer or is there something that he could do? He thought it was the fuel pump - but not, then he thought it was a fuse - nope....could it be that I need to relearn the security system? If so anyone has any idea how?

Background: I rode it on a very empty tank and then left it idol for a week only to come back to this issue......also the security light flashes but the setting just before starting the car, it goes solid and the service engine is not illuminated......before the tow to the shop I thought it was the battery - but no....new and replaced (the old was was due for replacement, it had build up all over it).....

I dont want to spend the extra $$ to have it towed to infinit....but if thats the case....i just may have to..... :ohno:

interesting... I am having the same issue. I just replaced the ECM and the IACV. The ECM came from a Nissan (mine's an I30) and included a key and the immobilizer module that hugs the ignition. The salvage yard said to tape the key to the module so I wouldn't have to reprogram anything since the immobilizer module will recognize the original key programmed to the replacement ECM. I taped it to the top. I wonder now if I need to locate it somewhere else or in a different orientation.

Regarding the security, if it is a security issue will the red security light to the left of the steering wheel is always on, does that mean that I need to have the keys reprogrammed to my car? If so, I will reinstall my original and have it reprogrammed to the Infiniti keys.

Will this security issue keep the fuel pump from turning on? I do not hear anything coming from the tank when I key on. Does the pump normally make a sound or is it quiet until it starts to fail and then gets loud with the humming sound people have been referring to. (I bought the car not running so I have no reference points here unfortunately...).

Thanks for any insight...
