ok, after 4 1/2 months of fixing the car up from the fire, i finally dropped the engine back into its hole today. I was using the stm mounts and just trying to make them work, so i had to do some filing after i pulled it back out. i filed them as much as i thought i could, but its still not sitting right. i had to force the transmission mount into place, and the engine appears to be sitting cockeyed a bit and its still hitting the sway bar. I think im going to try to file the passenger side mount down some more, and shim the sway bar. here are some pictures, let me know if you have any better ideas.

heres the sway bar hitting

back of transmission looking crooked

shifter sitting too far right

I took the o2 houseing off thinking it was hitting the steering column making it cockeyed, but it seems to be the mounts. any information would be helpful. Also, if anyone else has shimmed the swaybar, could you please give me some input on how to go about it? thanks

Dave

It is great to see your car making so much progress after that fire.

I have an idea that may be the reason for the offset, but I could be wrong.

Since your motor seems to be sitting very close to where the mckinney mounts placed mine, you may be having some contact between the top of the transmission and (by the starter) and the firewall.

On the mckinney mounts you have to make a small dent in the firewall to clear it. That might explain your issue, but I am just guessing.

Although I didn't shim my swabar, I thought about it, just to add a little clearance. Easiest way I see is to cut a couple of 1/4 inch thick plates and drill two holes. Then you can stack however many you need to clear. The benefit to the plates, instead of washers, is that you have a greater surface area. Depending on how many you need, you may need longer bolts.

Anyway best of luck to you!

my engine also sat to the right but after some "persuasive" prying it bolted in fine. just force it as long at the o2 housing is out. mine sat WAY off till i removed the o2 housing (hit the steering shaft)

well, i have those too, but this is the set they sent me that was supposed to fix that problem, but when it didnt, i filed the mounts down after i pulled the engine out the first time. its sitting a little better, but ill have to do some more tweaking i guess. I hate dealing with stupid people.
