hello im new to this forum but not to the forums general.....i just got a infiniti g35 used from my uncle....it has 114k miles....stock....auto.....as i took it for a test drive everything runs normal besides the idle is a little high.....and when its shifting...you can feel it go into 1st....2nd...3rd....then when it goes into 4th or trys to it just hangs in 3rd gear but the rpms drop..but you cant feel it going to the 4th or 5th gear.....now if i manually do it,its fine.....when i first started the car...it was idling at 1500 rpms constant....but to took apart the air box system....cleans the MAF and throttle body.....that seemed to make the car idle better...in other word normal...but when in drive...it doesnt go into 4th or 5th gear...at the end of 3rd just hangs but the rpms drop...nothing is slipping or grinding...

Maybe its shifting so smooth you can't feel it.

If the car was not shifting, at about 40-45 your rpms would be around 3k.

na,im gonna look more into it so i can give a better description...its very weird...its not like the car wont drive...just wont go in 4th or 5th gear..
i read some its a DBW car, meanning everything is controlled by the ecu, which leads me to think the transmission has a seperate control unit,or a sensor is malfuntioned..
car rides nice...as far as i can see....im sure there little things here and there that i dont see.but my uncle didnt mention before i tok the care, that it has a transmission issue,
and the shop wanted $2000 to replace it,without investigating the issue, all they did was tok it for a drive and said you need a new transmission

just and update......it turns out that the transmission itself is fine, and as another memeber mentioned, going into 4th was so smooth that it couldnt be felt unless you were really on the gas, then at 50 mph with went to 5th gear...im assuming when i first got it,reason why my uncle suspected the transmission was bad cause the idle was very high, use to dirty throttle and dirty maf, after that was cleaned,it idled where it was suppose to it...but all in all, everything seems to be good...just need rear rotors and brake pads, air filter, and transmission service...other that that, pretty quick car
