I had the same thing happen to my 1994 Infinity this spring. The pictures you posted could have been taken of my broken water pump and the mess it made. I went after the supply company and after a lot of work and many phone calls, I was successful in getting the entire repair bill paid for by the supply company. What forced them to pay up may have been that I had just had the water pump replaced by garage. The total repair bill was in the $2000 Canadian for the repairs.

Well the noise definitley coming from the back of the plenum. The noise does not occur when I first start up the car, and It happens in the low RPMs after the motor has been running for about 5 min. It seems to happen louder when i put it into gear and drive down the street.

I am going to check my starter again, the 20-50 oil did not help so back to diagnosis. no codes on ECU either

Any other options?

I just replaced the bearing on ac tensioner this week as I had been experiencing a rumbling noise at low RPM. It became apparent that it was the AC tensioner when the belt started squeeling and smelling burnt. $325 Canadian to get a shop to do the replacement. It fixed the problem.

The started is on nice and tight, and it is definitely coming from the back of the plenum. Here are a few videos to try and give you guys an idea of what it sounds like. And yeah the car was sitting for about 4 months.

This one is of when I punch the throttle. http://s83.photobucket.com/alb...2.flv

This one is when I rev it slowly the noise is not there. http://s83.photobucket.com/alb...3.flv
Finally listened to your sound clips (nice recording job).

The particular noise when you burp the throttle is still difficult to pick out. PCV or EGR valve rattle, or vacuum line related? Broken or loose O2 sensor down in the exhaust? And then there is that sort of whirring/whistling sound too.

actually, the whistling sound has always occurred when i purchased the J. I am going to take it to a 300zx specialist in town. My friend said he should look at it for free, and he knows these motors inside and out.

OK well my ERGC-solenoid to right side vacuum gallery seems to be loose at both ends, I am going to get some small hose clamps to see if that helps the problem.

when I rev it up and drive it the revving seems to be quite sluggish and the noise seems to be much deeper than before, almost like its working harder than it used to.

Photos please! Right side = passenger side? Sounds like you are going to need a few bolts, rather than clamps to fix what must be a big vacuum leak(s).

Ill have pics for you tomorrow, and I want to say thanks for putting up with me for so long.

The tube I am talking about is a very slender tube that is attached to the EGRC-solenoid, which is located on the passenger side of the plenum. The manual says it controls the right side vacuum. Here the pic from the FSM that describes it, but ill grab a real one as well.

So Number 8 is actually the one that is loose, but after reading a bit more in the book I am starting to think that there is a vacuum problem. is there any way that I could have messed up the timing by removing the crank pulley? I did not remove the key to ensure proper re-install and the timing belt was never removed.

Nice images, and no, the toothed timing belt gear is still in position behind timing belt covers and the smooth outer crank pulley simply turns the unsynchronized water pump and accessory belts.

Are the about 1/2" diameter metal EGR tubes that is attach the two sides of the EGR valve and the undersides of the plenum secure, along with the EGR valve itself?
