Hello,
I noticed the change in the way the engine sounds and was told by the dealer that both front wheel bearings must be replaced, although it is not a safety hazard to continue driving as is, and it is a $1480 procedure.
Should I trust the dealer? :)
Not a safety hazard?

Thanks!

Also, front passenger side axle was replaced two years ago as it leaked oil, and now I am told the front driver side axle starts leaking and must be replaced.
Apparently, this is because of the age of the car made in 2012. Does this sound right?
There is about 83K miles on it.

Thanks!

Bad Nissan wheel bearings behave pretty consistently, you'll almost always get a low-pitched hum which gets louder as road speed increases. Front ones will often change pitch slightly when turning. If that jives with your symptoms then it's likely a correct diagnosis.

Rubber axle boots age over time and aren't affected much by mileage, so leaky ones on an 11 year old car aren't surprising. The rubber simply dries out and cracks. For future reference, you can greatly prolong the life of all under-car rubber parts by hitting them with some WD40 periodically (I do it once a year on our own cars). Our '13 Altie is almost as old as your Rogue and with 50K more miles, but the boots are still flexible and I don't expect failure anytime soon.

Thank you for chiming in, @VStar650CL.
The dealer charges over $800 for every axle replacement, because of oil leak.
Why do they do that, if replacing the axle boots is all that is needed?

Unless you use those glue-together split boots, the axle has to come off the car to replace the boots. So it's the same operation either way, you're just paying more parts and less labor for a new axle or more labor and less parts for new boots. Honestly, for my own cars, I'll never yank a good axle to replace a boot ever again. I used the glueys on my dearly departed Hyundai, they held up like champs for a fraction of the repair effort. I'm sold on glue.

Another type of noise started recently: sounds like horse galloping, starts at about 40 mph and fades away at about 80 mph, does not change much with driving speed.
Any ideas?

You might consider buying the wheel bearing assembly. I got 2 for about $100. Then take to shop you trust that will use your parts. I did front driver bearing assembly myself after it went out at about 300k mi.

Thanks! Is the part number below correct?
Also, there is only Right Front listed at https://parts.nissanusa.com.
I suppose the same would work for Left Front side? It is $120 each.

I got the trq bearing kit from partsgeek.com. for your 2012 it's $103 free ship currently. You can research reviews and decide.

That's great. You did not answer my question about the part number though :)
