i have no idea if i titled this thread correctly. well the reason for this post is because i went to my friends party and her sister just bought a new 2.5s altima sedan. and she's been driving it pretty hard. i asked her if she took it easy for the first 1,000 miles or 1st month or so. and she freaking damn floored that baby the first night she got it. so she was questioning me with what negatives can result of not breaking in the engine properly..and i could not answer her lol. so an answer from someone would be help to her and me. thank you.

what i've HEARD (im no expert) is that when they manufacture the engines they purposely leave the edges rough so that they grind against each other and make a perfect fit. so if you floor it when you have like 10 miles on the car, it's going to start getting hot (the engine) and it can permanently mess things up. thats what i heard online so i'm not exactly sure. i googled it a while back and saw a good post about it on a TSX or TL forum. i also heard that if you don't take the RPMs up high then after your breaking in period when you do try to, you haven't broken in the higher RPMs. they said it's ok to like floor it a couple times but don't keep on it for a long time. if you do floor it for a minute then drive slow or normal for a while so the engine doesn't get too hot. once again, im no expert but this is just stuff i saw online.... not sure if it helps much

There are people on both sides of the fence in this department.

A. Those that follow manufactures suggestions on a break in process.

B. Those that drive it like they stole it from day one.

I've seen people beat the living crap out of cars and they run forever. I've seen people baby cars and they have some problems down the road. You can't win. Me, I'm the follow directions type of guy

Its nice when you dont have to buy a car that othres have been test driving. I know that I test drove a lot of ACs, and I was redlinning them and going full throttle. I feel bad for whoever bought the cars I test drove!

I made it REAL clear to the dealership when i ordered mine that NO ONE!!! was to drive my car when it came in, and made them promise me that they would baby it when an employee drove it, gently, from point A to point B ONLY!
