Not another head gasket question

i am replacing the head gasket on my 92 coupe(dohc) and i cant find in any of my manuals whether or not to remove the whole lower time chain or just remove the idler bolt and the lower timing chain tensioner to take off the head. What would be the easiest and correct way to do this. Please help car is torn apart and getting sick of deisel fuel prices for the duramax
