Compliments! New to the forum, but I've been lurking around, scoping out rebuilds, miring quite a few Zs; won't name any to protect the innocent! haha
I digress though, I just scored myself a completely unadulterated 1996 300zx 2+2 with an odometer reading of 70406 miles. I'm ecstatic and the drive home was exhilarating!!( First time driving one)

So now onto my topic, I'm questioning as to what was the first thing you've upgraded on your Z32? Whether it was a new coat of paint, exhaust system, complete engine swap or even just replacing that dinged up side view mirror, I'm intrigued to the fullest. Another factor would be what was your fondest memory when working on your car? Late nights rebuilding that engine or finding that part you've been scouring for quite some time; please share your stories, I'd like to get some insight on where to start. Thanks in advance, Zee On!!

Congrats on the new(lol) Z!

My first repair wasn't a happy time. I bought my Z, drove it into work the next day to show my buddies and she broke down in the pouring rain before I got there. Stupid alternator had went out. I had also just learned about the interference engines the night before when I googled "what to look for in a used Z" (after I bought it of course ... face palm). The car has a lot of miles and the previous owner had only had it a few months and had no idea if the timing belt had been replaced recently. So to be safe, I had the shop doing the 120k service on it while they were working on the alternator. Walked out with a $2500 bill. Decided there and then if I was going to have my Z I was going to have to do the work on her.

2 1/2 years later I still have her and have learned a whole bunch about working on them.

The two things I've done that I'm most happy about was 1) replacing nasty old cloth seats with leather seats, and 2) plasti dipping the ugly/chipping lower skirt(?).

Here is a before -

Enjoy your Z!

Welcome to NICO OP, congrats on your purchase. As you may have read numerous times already maintenance is going to be your #1 priority and it can get pricey quick, these cars are however amazingly stout and built to last as long as you keep up with them.

Welcome, and congrats!
For me some bad mechanics and other hassles with shops around 2005 led me to working on mine first with simple maintenance of vacuum hoses and a cracked intake tube, but then snowballed into where I am now.
Enjoy!
