I have been debating over whether or not to get NOS for my 97 Q, and then possibly for my 92. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and if anyone knows of a specific kit that would work the best?

JWT has a special ECU for NOS applications.I think NOS would be a LOT of fun on an early Q, I just never felt like it was required.

If members think about it, the only real weak acceleration situation is when you can't downshift to 1st [say above 23 mph] but by 55 mph [4,000 rpm everythinhg is ok] but 25-50 is a dog.

A 50-75 HP shot [referenced at 6,000 rpm] that engages at low rpm [2500] creates a 5252/6,000=0.875 x 75= 65 lb/ft boost at 6,000 and twice that at 3,000 [130 lb/ft]........2.4 x 60= 144 lb/ft at 2500 rpm.

This EXTRA 130-144 is too much in 1st gear [at low rpms] all the rear tires do is spin and smoke ........hurting acceleration on stock tires.

But in 2nd gear where the 9.85 gear drops to 5.56........the full EXTRA 144 can be used without breaking lose the tires yielding close to 300-320 rear wheel torque vs 240 [stock].

Running NOx for the 14 second quarter consumes close to 1.2 pounds but only using it in 2nd gear for a 5 second pass obviously uses only 1/3 as much...........allowing 20 or more accelerations [may be 25].

In the past I considered having JWT modify their ecu controlled system so it only workrd in 2nd gear..........much less stress on tires diff, transmission [well a little less] and much cheaper to refill once per month than once per week.

Instead of a 50-80 time of 5.3 to 6.0 seconds you could shave a full second off the time [4-5 car lengths] and probably 2.0 seconds off the 2nd gear 30-80 time.

After all a 4,000 pounder is not a drag racer.

When is NOS used? Jumping on to freeways? Passing?

Brian, does that mean you won't take a ride in Quella next time you're out this way? My mechanic is cobbling up a nice little 30-50-shot system for the Q just for fun... Now to find a used remote bottle opener... Hmmmm.

Only if you will turn it on for that 130 to 150 sprint.

Don't forget Speeddoctor has had Nos on his Q, with some interesting experiences. Look him up.

Another cheap NOX system is the Zex [for Hondas mostly] which can be set up for a mild 55 HP squirt [at 6,000 rpm] which is still 75-80 lb/ft at 3,000 rpm...............it supplies the extra fuel by essentially blocking off the fuel return line hose from the rail regulator raising the pressure to 65 psi [which the pump can stand for a short will without over heating].

The JWT system is better since you gain all the benefits of the ecu upgrade when you don't have the NOX turned on ...[2 position switch] and the extra fuel is just programmed into ecu ...........2 separate WOT MAPS.

With NOX you must maintain everything perfectly as a failure of the fuel supply for even a few seconds will [can] melt the piston and rings.http://www.zex.com/http://www.zex.com/I ... n/Catalog/
