Okay, I've done the searches and have a question...

I'm an old man of 41 [old for this board :-)] and have a 2000 I30 with 36k miles still running the factory rims and Goodyear tires. I would like to get new tires and was wondering what the best tire for normal highway driving would be? The car is my daily work driver (I have a 1996 Porsche Carrera 4S for my fun drives) and I'm looking for something that is smooth riding, lasts a while, and is quiet. I'm in the South and never see snow but do see heavy rains at times. I am leaning towards the Michelin MXV4's but was wondering if there is another alternative. Cost really isn't an issue.

Also, I really like the standard G35 sedan rims and can pick up a set relatively cheap. They are 17" and my I30 is 16". Other than speedo calibration issues is there any problem with tire clearance if I went with the 17" rims?

Thanks!

Hey Bill, Welcome to NICO!!

The Michelin is an excellent choice! Check with our sponsor, TireRack for availability. Here's a link to their site..http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...EC_=4

The MXV4 is a great tire... you'll not be disappointed!

I have not seen a G35 wheel on the I30 before. A good idea might be to ask to have one fitted to your car before buying, just to see where fitment could be a problem.

If cost isnt an issue, go with the mxv4+ without a doubt...

the only downside to that tire is how soft the ride is, and the cost...

and since you want a smooth ride and cost isnt an issue..

we have a winnah!

-chetalso, you can come to my NTB to get them :)

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Be sure to stop by in our Infiniti section!http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....id=26

MXV4+ Information from Michelinhttp://www.michelinman.com/cat...ce=ta

When I worked for NTB I sold alot of these tires, about 75% of the time it was to people who specifically wanted those tires on their car because they loved the ride. The other 25% bought them because they wanted a better ride than their lesser tires offered. I never once heard a complaint about the ride quality, or even the amount of road noise from these tires so Michelin must be doing something right!

Depending on which size you are looking at, I'd look at the Bridgestone Turanza as the best in a Touring tire. Much better wet traction than the Energy MXV4 and much better noise/ride quality as they wear. We have had a lot of long-term customer issues with the lack of wet traction and increasing noise level with the Energy MXV4. Those would be the two best tires in that type of tire. I've driven both on the track and on the road and found the Bridgestones to be a bit better all the way around. For handling, I'd steer clear of the Continental CH95. It's great if you like a very, very, soft ride and are not concerned with sporty handling. Just not my cup of tea I guess....

If you are willing to spend a bit more (and you said that cost was not an issue), the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP is absolutely awesome for wet weather and low road noise. It is not a "Touring Tire" but easily quieter than the ones that are rated that way!

Check out Tire Rack for more info.

P.S. I am another old man on the board (48 this June). :)
