I have just got my sohc rebuilt and running and while the smoking has lessened it hasn't stopped. Also the idle is not perfect. I know that it is timed right and the chain is on the right teeth and she is set to 15 degrees advanced on the crank. Now the problems. I pulled the plugs and they are coverd with dry black carbon and it still smokes. I brushed all of the spark plugs off and put them back in the head. I brushed all of the conections of all of the electrical plugs that i could (injectors tps maf etc). I brushed the rotor and the cap points. I drained the gas tank and put fresh gas in there. I then took her for a spin around the block and pulled one of the plugs and they are completely black again and there was smoke coming out of the plug hole. Not a lot but when i removed the plug it came out, is this normal? Is there going to be a period when the plugs are going to get fouled up like this? Is this normal, let me know. Thanks

check your fuel pressure and your injector pulse. if you dry fire your cylinders you will get a little oil through the valves

if the build up on the plugs was dry it leads me to believe that it is running way too rich. Do you smell gas while the car is running? Is the smoke black? Need more info to really know the cause.

How many miles do you have, is it possible that the rings haven't seated yet? Why did you rebuild it?

Occasionally, during break in, burning oil is somewhat normal. Are your plugs sticky and black or just black?
