I'm posting here to try to get the word out about FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN being shady as f***!!! So if you're in the greater Sacramento, Ca area please read this and pass along the word.

So this morning at 9:00am my girlfriend's mother dropped her 350z off at FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN to have a new radio installed. At 4:00pm she still had not heard from FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN , so she and my girlfriend went to the dealership to see what the status of the car was.

When they got to FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN, the service manager did not know where her car was. It was not in the bay, which he thought was strange because the new radio was not installed and was sitting on the counter still. Just then 2 of FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN'S mechanics came driving up in her car. The service manager ran over to the car, and returned a short time later. He told her that they were test driving the car to make sure the radio's automatic volume adjustment was working. Big problem here... #1- The new radio was not installed yet. #2- The old radio didn't even work! And #3- Her z didn't even come with that option!

She started questioning the mechanic. He became extremely belligerant, and would not allow her to hardly speak. He started ripping all of the paper out of the car and told her that he wouldn't work on her car. My girlfriend lost her cool, and called the guy an a$$hole because of the way he was talking to her mother. The mechanic yanked the keys from the ignition and said, "Here, you can leave."

They went to talk to FOLSOM LAKE NISSAN'S general manager. He went to find out what had happened. When he returned he had a totally different story. He said the mechanics took it for a test drive because they heard a "clicking" noise comming from the window. Another big problem... When she asked which window was clicking, or why they needed 2 mechanics to test drive the car for a clicking window, the only thing he wouls say is, "I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you."

The general manager told them that he was going to write the mechanics up, but said that he could not afford to fire them becuase he had already fired 5 other employees this month for similar behavior.

They finished installing the radio, and simply told her "Okay, you can go." She asked about her paperwork, and whether or not they were going to replace the gas that the mechanics had used while they were out joyriding. The general manager rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath. He tried to give her a $5.00 bill to cover the gas. She told him no, and said she didn't want his money. This apparently really offended him.

He told them that he was going to have a meeting with his employees, and said that he would call them thater in the evening. He said, "I'm on your side."

Well, he called... But he seems to have changed sides. He told her that she was 100% in the wrong, and that the entire situation was the result of my girlfriend usiong profanity when she was talking to the mechanic.

Can you believe this sh*t? They illegally take the car out for a joyride, and them pull this!!! We're going to report them to the BBB, the BAR, and probably to the local news stations. But I'm also asking that if you live near Sacramento, Ca and you've read this, help me spread the word. FOLSOM LAKE NISSIAN will illegally take your car out joyriding, and then everyone, all the way up to the general manager will lie about it to cover it up. Thanks, Brandon

Sadly, that's the risk of taking a car to any shop. I'm not saying all of them do stuff like this, but I know shops that do stuff similar...

You should post this up on craigslist.com. They seem to love to advertise their cars on it.

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely good to know.

If I may give you some advice, your GF's mother definitely deserves renumeration. I would submit this story to Consumerist.com, you'll probably get some good tips from them. Also contact the news stations (3, 10, 13, and 31) and see if they'd be interested in a car dealer that uses customers' vehicles for joyrides.

Contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair. It's there to protect us, they need to know what FL Nissan is doing.

Finally, see if you can find out who owns the dealership and send them via certified mail a letter detailing exactly what happened, what the mom expects as compensation, and at the bottom do the cc: thing showing you have contacted Consumerist, Channel 3, the BAR and the State Attorney General. Be sure the letter is perfect with spelling and grammar.

Hopefully, he'll sh*t his pants and give you whatever you ask for.

Your more then welcome to bring your Z down to elk grove for service. We dont joy ride customer cars. As a matter of fact the only time you wil see 2 techs in a CUSTOMERS car is if the coustomer has a concern for squeeks or rattles or if its an apprentice tech seeking a second opinion from the master techs. During service we typically never drive a car unless we are doing something with the chassis of the car.

Edited after getting the other side of the story.

I'd certainly be stunned if that happened to me, and I think I'd probably feel the same initial outrage. In retrospect, I think it was a mistake to confront and embarass the techs. But I could easily have made that same mistake myself.

At this point, you should remind yourself there was absolutely no damage done. If you continue to escalate this pissing match, you're really just... well, letting your ego drive your life.

You have an enviable car. Remember that is good. Remind yourself of the good in your life, and it should quickly displace this minute transgression.

The situation could possibly have been converted to a good laugh and a few dollars saved.

Today a freind stopped by my dealer today who happens to work at folsom now[used to work at elk grove] I brought this little incident up to him and jokingly said "so you guys are joy riding customer cars up there huh". He laughed and said you heard about that huh? I asked who was driving the car. He stated he was and the other person in the car was also a tech down this way at one time.

First off I would like to point out my friend stands nearly 7 ft tall and moonlights as a bouncer so I give props to your girls mom for stepping into the pile of dung.

However after lenghty conversation with him I discovered the gravity of what took place.

The reason there were 2 techs in the car was exactly why I said earlier, they were listening to a rattle from the passenger door. one in which she admittedly new about. When he got into the car to bring it into the shop he heard the noise as he drove through the parking lot. He asked another tech to jump in and listen to it as he took it around the block. The entire "joyride" consited of exiting the rear driveway going around the Chrysler store and coming back in the front driveway of the nissan store. The car aquired less then 8 tenths of a mile from the time it arived to the time she took possetion of it. He did this because he knew it would have been covered under warranty and was ,out of the goodness of his heart, going to take care of it for her since it was covered. There are very few techs that will go this extra mile for a customer as nissans warranty doesnt pay all that great.

As he was pulling into the shop she came storming into the shop and started laying into him with out trying to rationalize the situation. After several minutes of trying to be polite he finally threw his hands up and handed the radio to his manager and stated he did not want to do it. Actually his words were much more harsh at that point.

I have worked with this tech and I know him pretty well, he doesnt make crap up.

As for the travel feature of the radio. That was an assumption made by the advisor. When that was brought up he is the one that pointed out that was not true as he hadn't installed the radio yet.In the end she recieved a full tank of gas out of the situation for a drive less then 1 mile.

The next day She called the dealer and appoligized to all involved for her out burst.

Brandon you may want to have discuss this with your future mother in-law and perhaps have this thread removed.
