Shoot. That's too soon, Hussain. I wouldn't be able to secure time off work to come. I'd like to go, but I finish work at 6:30PM at the earliest and it's a 2+ hour drive. Another time will have to do.

ya I'm sorry. it was a last minute thought since a bunch of people are on spring break right now and the weather is going to heat up soon. but we'll do it again after summer and hopefully I'll have more mods and beat my 13.9

Try this out to beat your 13.9.

- Start in Manual mode
- Do a "brake launch" at about 2,500RPM
- Let the car automatically shift to 2nd gear
- Immediately throw it into CVT after it shifts (you'll be at ~5,000 RPM)

Also try the same, but switching to CVT mode while still in 1st gear, just under 4,000 RPM.

I have been able to get quicker 0-60 times this way. There are a few reasons I believe this works:

1. When in CVT mode, the transmission may not be in a "1st gear" gear ratio when at a stand still (or brake launching). It takes time for the transmission choose a gear ratio for hard acceleration. And although it will select that ratio when you run at WOT in CVT mode, selecting it takes time.

2. When doing a brake launch, you don't want to punch it all the way, because you'll start moving if you have stock brakes. If you're in CVT mode when you're attempting a brake launch, you'll end up in a useless gear ratio for a 0-60 launch, because to avoid moving you need to have the gas pedal a third of the way or half way down. If you do a launch from that position, the transmission will have to switch gear ratios to get prime acceleration, and you'll eat up more time.

For these reasons, the car will spool up quicker to red-line when launching in manual mode. But then, the CVT has the advantage by keeping you at peak RPM. So the idea is to start in manual mode, then switch to CVT mode.

The tricky part is when to switch. You can also try switching to CVT mode in 1st at just under 4,000 RPM.

If you throw it into CVT mode when you're under 4,000 RPM, the RPMs will continue spooling up. If you're over 4,000RPM and throw it into CVT mode, the transmission sometimes wants to upshift or reconfigure the gear ratio.

I'd say try playing with both methods before you hit the track, and see what kind of behavior you find when switching to CVT mode at those two points... or perhaps find some others of your own. It will definitely get you some faster 0-60 times.

/PS Empty out the trunk, including the spare.

I've tried that before and it does feel faster but my times wern't any better and my car actually did a crazy back fire doing that at the track one time. I thought I blew my transmission or something. it was a hella loud BOOM! but I know what you're talking about, I used to do that when racing from a roll too. it gets the RPMs up to redline faster and then you have it back in "D" so it just stays there... best time I got was by just leaving it in "D" and launching it. I know that if it was a little colder, I could have hit a 13.8. I mean I hit a 13.912 and thats like pretty much the lowest 13.9 you can get, I almost hit a 13.8

if I do a bunch of maintenance and get a Y-pipe, I can beat the 13.9 no problem.

Those are some of the fastest times I've heard from an un-boosted Altima. Maybe that's why you're getting such s*** mileage haha... air/fuel ratio very rich perhaps?

could be. I think I need to sea foam the car and maybe clean the throttle body and injectors.

the funny thig is that those times were done with $0 invested into it. my car was 100% stock (on stock tires) and all I did was unbolt the exhaust... I wanted to test a theory I had and I was right, with the 3.5se the more free flowing the exhaust is, the faster you go. If I get a Y-pipe and unbolt the exhaust after the Y-pipe (I'll be deleting a cat) I'll be even faster. a 3.5se CVT with some bolt ons, a tune, and unbolted exhaust, should be able to get around a 13.5 in the 1/4 mile (maybe even a little faster).

Y-pipe, pulley, tune, traction rods, and unbolting the exhaust are the mods I'm talking about... a ram air intake only slows down the car.

Can you explain the part about the intake?

Is it because the air is warmer, and the ECU tries to compensate?

I have a K&N in my room, waiting to install on my A/C along with a y-pipe and an UpRev tune. Why would anyone buy an SRI in that case? :inout:

they would buy it because of the sound it makes. I haven't tested it myself but several members have tested it and showed it was slower. ram air sucks in hot air from the engine bay and the stock intake is sealed and only gets air from the front of the car... a cold air intake would have the filter down at the bottom so it can get fresh air. I've heard cold air is more dense so you suck in more air. could also be the ECU is trying to compensate. idk. I just remember seeing multiple members posting about it making their car slower.

so I checked the weather and it's supposed to be like 60 degrees at like 3pm and over night like 39 degrees lol so later on in the night (at the track) we should see temps around 45 degrees. it doesn't get much better for a track day :bigthumb:

so here is the other vid from today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZjlBVoqRKI

as for times from the track :tisk: horrible.... none of us ran good. idk if it was a bad day at the track or if our cars just need maintenance work. I consistently ran slower and slower. I did a 14.2, a 14.4, 14.5, and finally a 14.6 with a passenger

Bummer! Yah, I hope I do better then last time (went last Sunday), could not hook up for the life of me  , Best was a 15.9, the time before I ran a 15.7 and the weather was worse! What about the others? I want more times :bigthumb: !!

mmx23z ran a 15.5 a couple times with his 2.5. he said he ran a little faster going from +2 to +1 on the timing on his bully dog tunner. so he wants to try and run it again. SEismyG ran a 14.4 or 14.5 and his mods are borla exhaust, Y-pipe, and intake.

theirs a video of me and mmx23z running against each other. He dialed in a 15.5 and I dialed in a 14.0 so his turned green before mine.

I ran a 15.1 twice! My first race was against a stock truck, kinda like an oversized bronco. 2nd race was against one of those annoyingly loud trucks. 3rd race was against a Honda 4 door. 4th race was against a supercharged mustang. I won all 4 of the races (mustang guy w/girlfriend in car I think stalled and did a 22). When the 3rd race came along, that's when I got disqualified with a 14.4. Took Hussains advice about the e-brake burnout and got my traction stabilized. Next time running, got to get my maintenance done and get rid of that spare tire! Fun track day nonetheless, my only regret is being f***ing late!!!

sooo... i cant say im disappointed, 15.5 was my best, & is a full second faster then my best stock time, but with that being said i could of done better significantly, i was running a 2 degree advance on my timing when i knew it should have only been 1. my 1st run was a 15.592 ran 2 more times at 15.6 & my last one i said f-it changing my timing back to one, mind u all my times were getting slower, same as hussians, & i hit a 15.531 one

all of those times i also had trouble with wheel spin, not out of control but enough to knock me down a couple points, i never encountered that problem on my stock 2.5 with the cvt obiously but i noticed the better my launch & reaction time the more i spun & the slower times i got (2 15.6s) also i have a filthy air intake that should of been cleaned like a yr ago lol i was actually contemplating putting on my stock intake lol i can honestly say tho i could easily hit 15.3-15.1 if all went well & i really wanna go back soon to do it with the right timing this time & with a clean intake lol

ps i had my spare in the car lol ...phi! :chuckle:

Very nice man!! Those are much better times then I last saw you doing, have you done any new mods since then? Wish you were in NY, then I would just HAVE to race you lol! I put in an intake this week n it sounds real nasty and when I went to the track last weekend I could not hook up for the life of me :gotme ! I meet up with a new friend I made and decided to take him on a drive :naughty: ! I have a vid he took at the end (wasnt going as hard though),[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iAAgPSp ... k=/youtube]
If this is thread-jacking lmk and i'll take it off, the noise is actually the intake lol!

Actually, the intake has made a diff. It's the Injen I bought off of itsjustbusiness. It's for the CVT but I said F-it and put it in anyway, going to change it a lil to make it work better.

Before I put it in I ran a 15.7 in real sh*tty track conditions :gotme , went last weekend with the intake, better conditions but cant hook up for the f-ing life of me, not matter how much I played with the gas n clutch  . The car feels a lot more powerful according to the famous butt dyno but idk, I never had as much trouble with traction, most of the runs were around a 16-16.1 spinning like crazy  ! I have to re-work my launches now!

Those roads are right behind my house  lol. If you come to my area I would like to meet you!

I'm uploading another vid of me and mmx23z racing now...

I know why I ran so slow. compared to my other times, it took me a while to get into my powerband. I unbolted my exhaust before and did really good. but this time when I unbolted it, I pushed it completely out of the way. so before it was like 95% free flowing and at this track day it was 100% free flowing. that extra little tiny bit of back pressure was what helped me to get going
