Mercedes Benz is going to start adding it's Engines to the Infinitis line up. This is truly, TRULY a sad day for me and Infiniti as a company. I've been a huge Infiniti fan and love how well build and reliable all their engines are. I hate to see MB pollute infinities line up with their under powered, unreliable, expensive Kompsh**ter Engines. MB has some of the worst reliability issues, and plenty of lemons to show for it. I truly believe MB is benefiting most from this merger and NOT Nissan/Renault. Nissan/Renault are doing just fine and don't need the Germans to invade their line up. All MB has to show for is it's name, most everything else they offer is crap. I'm not a fan of globalization. If I wanted to drive a Japanese car with a German engine in it, I'd just buy a Mercedes, BMW or Audi. Agh... Let me know what you guys think... am I overreacting here? Nissan/Renault.

PS: Here is the link to the article I read on this subject http://www.autoblog.com/2010/0...ngine/

thats the dumbest thing ever!! a MB motor in a Nissan is terrible idea. that really pisses me off...i dunno why renault nissan would want to join up with daimler after what they did to chrysler. nissan has great motors....i hope no one buys those cars so that nissan would come to their senses and put a NISSAN motor in their cars.

A four cylinder MB engine? WTF? So now the G series is going to be a watered down Mercedes with a lawnmotor engine? Sounds like a great plan.

Will they even give owners a choice? Or are all G owners going to be forced to accept this option?

Helps out Nissan financially a lot. The new CAFE and EURO 6 rules comming and they have to hit it. There is going to be a BMW1 Audi 3 fighter also for the G and the Infiniti version of the Nissan leaf.So they say.

Mercedes used to make one of the longest lasting engines beside Saab. Now they are divorced from Chrysler they should be good again. Think positive people.

It is not unheard to have similar engines in cars with little tweaks. Mazda - Ford or just see the Mitsubishi, SRT-4, Hyundai trio. To be able to keep the price low they have to be smart.

Hatchback Infiniti.

Nissan-renault-daimler sharing will bring a lot of things over. there was going to be a new Titan based off the new Ram, but that was cancelled. Mercedes will get a few of nissan's awesome chassis and engine/trans combos and Nissan will work with some of their good stuff too. Its all one big organized backrub.

Da Germans and Japanese working together towards a common global objective.... this plot is strangly familiar?

If I wanted a Mercedes I would have bought a Mercedes.

This deal isn't really as bad (on paper)as some of the information seems to lead. Although initial judgments are going to be negative by some loyalists on both sides of the fence. The fact of it is taking the best that Germany has to offer and putting it with whatever Nissan is working with here might create a decent product, that will be mutually beneficial.

When Diamler bought into the sinking ship that was Chrysler it was like the mid 30s single woman that swore if they just moved her stuff in they could change the self destructive ways of this washed up bad boy. It seemed destine to fail from the start.

I was reading (http://nissannews.com/newsrelease.do?id=1431&mid=1) and found it interesting that the first lines of Powertrain mention Nissan giving up engines to be tuned the MB way... However I would really love to see a G65.

Money talks and this might actually be a decent agreement between two respected groups. We shall see.

I thought the new Ram was at one point going to be based off the Titan, not the other way around.....Of course, that fell through.

Like I commented on a similar thread...it's OK if they release an AMG-powered engine in a G-sized coupe/sedan to compete with the M3/S4.

but see, all we really want, for compatibility purposes is the new 420hp 5.6 motor from the M56 to get popped into a G, and we'll be drooling.

from futher reading... this deal looks to be mainly cost sharing and they repeatedly state that brand image wont be sacraficed in this deal. Plus most of us wont be buying these 4 cylinder cars anyway...

"We know that we can make brand-typical products based on shared architectures. The individual brand identities will remain unaffected.”

"The area of engine cooperation will be driven by a technical concept that ensures the preservation and clear distinctiveness of the individual respective brand and product identities, while at the same time providing a highly competitive cost structure. First, a high level of standardization of the non-brand-relevant components will provide substantial savings for both partners. Second, the use of separate, brand-specific technology packages will ensure that the requirements of the respective brands are met."

Maybe someone can confirm this, but when my dad had a Datsun 510, he always said that its engine was a copy of a Mercedes motor. So maybe this isn't the first time MB and Nissan have collaborated on engines.

that reminds me of a t-shirt I used to wear. it said, "This is your brain" and showed a BMW logo. Then it read, "this is your brain on drugs" and showed a Mercedes Benz logo.

I might still have it somewhere....
