....i curbed my car a few days ago. i had to replace my two right side tires because they were torn. my alignment is off, how are you supposed to check for bent axles??? i dont have any shimmy when i drive freeway speeds so i dont think i messed up my axle. ahahah.....it was quite the experience. i have 91 240sx coupe.

good luck w/ that, i had someone merge into my lane in the rain & i ate the curb to keep them from hitting me. bad idea, i bent a rim, broke the pillow tension rod, & the alignment shop told me i needed an inner & outer tie rod on the left side (side that hit the curb) to get my alignment back. yeah, replaced all that & it still pulls to the left & the steering wheel is turned a little to the right, guess it bent the frame??? not sure & i dont have the $$ to have a frame shop tell me if its bent or not, my poor s13... @ least it gave me a reason to replace everything w/ tein, d@mn tourists...

wow that sux. well i was taking a left in the rain, and i accelerated to lose rear traction....ive done it before so i thought i could handle it. i lost too much traction and was countersteering then all of a sudden i snapped back and my rear lost traction going the other way putting me 90 degrees facing the right side curb. i jumped the curb and popped my two right tires. i pull a little to the left now, but just barely. im wondering if i bent something or if i just need to get everything realigned. im going to invest in a 50 dollar computerized alignment. messing around in the rain was a 140 dollar mistake (for the tires...lol futuras.)

most of the alignment stuff is done with this kinda of a set upwere a lock nut are is used on a threaded shaft, which I wouldnt think wouldn't give very much on impact it more likely bend before it pushed hard enough to hread the shaft more...

Odds are you axle is fine other things might need checking on. Curb with some speed, your checking front tension rod/tie rods inner/lower control arm. For rear your looking at lca, toe, traction rods.I woud basically jack up and look for anything bent you can use the other side to see how they're supposed to be symmetrical. If your not mechanically inclined take it to a reliable shop they'll tell you if anything is bent before giving you a alignment as you will be out of specif so and they can't do it until its fixed.

That's weird, I've never had the car snap back unintentionally. If you have a good angle and you use the brakes or let off the gas entirely though it does have that effect. You have to be quick on the countersteer, but it sounds like the curbs were too close for it to matter. My condolences to your car yo. :/

Oh and Fredejo, it sounds like you would have been better off letting that lame driver bump into your car rather than move into the curb, in hindsight? At least you would have had it covered in insurance right? That's always a hard decision..."do i let them hit me, it's thier fault, or do i swerve and risk screwing myself over against ______obstacle?" I've been in that situation before but have come out accident free so far.

there is also very good chance your wheel bearing was damaged ... it wont show up soon but if you got the money may as well replace it.

ouch looks like i got lucky...acutally i jacked up the car and looked. i dun know what its called exactly but i think the tension rod rubber thingy....if its even the tension rod...that mounts to the lower control arm and towards the front of the car is erupted. my rear right wheel well clearance is like an inch higher than the left....i dunno what that means. im more of an engine guy than a suspension guy...i know basics but im not crazy mechanics like a lot of these people are

the fsm has all the alignment measurements in it. surf around all the fsm's are on the web in zip files.

the rubber bushing on the tension rod bust with age. when you get an alignmnet make sure you get a test drive before they say their done. nothing sux more than driving home to find they didn't fix the prob.
