Hello. I just joined NICO because I recently bought a 1965 L320. This is my first Datsun in recent history (I regrettably sold a 78 (?) B210 in 1984). It is also my first auto project, so I will be challenged to get this truck on the road. The previous owner told me that it had sat in a salvage yard in southern New Mexico at least the last 20 years. He recently moved it to Tucson, Az, where I live, just to sell it and I found it on CL I like these trucks and this is the first one I ran into over the years. Body is in good shape with little rust, some damage to front, Not sure yet on mechanical as it is not ready to run. But the previous owner told me the motor turns (for what that's worth). Could really use a windshield.

Welcome.
Congratulations.
The truck looks good, pretty complete. Lots of desert in the engine bay, but that's much better than rust!
If I were you I would focus on getting it running and not worry about cosmetics. It looks good enough to drive as it is.
If you have questions on parts or mechanicals, ask away.
Do you have the air cleaner somewhere or was that missing?
How about some shots of the interior?

BTW your truck is a 1964 model year. You can tell by the grille. The 64s have pie-shaped turn signal lenses. The 65s have round lenses that are integrated into the grille (similar to the way the 64 lenses are). The 63s have round lenses but they are exterior to a narrower-profile grille.

Welcome aboard!

Also, the proper nomenclature for that truck is "L320."

I'm a couple hours north of you, and a good friend Dale owns a beautifully-preserved original twin of your truck (if you'd like to see what one looks like completed).

IF, on the off chance you decide NOT to tackle it, please let one of us know. We're desperately trying to preserve as many of them as possible, even if it's just for future restoration.

Also, don't forget to enter it in the 320 VIN database!

RG320,

Welcome aboard and congrats on the find. I'd much rather have a rust free body over a running 320 any day as I have a few cancer patients.

Contrary to what some might say - Mechanical parts are available and the NiCo 320 forum is a good place to start. Sorry about the windshield, and yes, this is a tough one to find, but we can help get you up and running.

I'd recommend just starting your own thread as you work through the issues of getting your 320 up and running. This will help us all track your progress and narrow the 320 crowd directly on past repairs and current issues. I've have overhauled two E1s and Steve in OK has just finished up his engine rebuild on his NL320 so there are a few recent/newer threads on the E1 engine.

Let us know where we can assist and again, welcome aboard. :mike

Thanks AZhitman and Li'l Truckie, I get up to the north quite regularly and would enjoy seeing a finished truck. Also, I will start my own build thread. I'll soon be posting some pics of the interior in that thread. Maybe clean out the dirt first.

thanks guys......RIch
