Okay so my other half and myself have been talking about doing a ka-t motor for the longest. Lets jus say for one i got him into nissans after i bought my s14, after that he got out of his american phase and got himself an s13. He loves the idea of a fully built motor and running nos only. I like the idea of running turbo.. People have told us we can run turbo without modding the motor as in changing the internals, but i honestly dont wanna pop a motor after spending all that money on the turbo kit etc. I guess what i am asking, what do you all think is the best option to go with.. He sold his all motor s10 so we have about 3000 to play with i jus want it right the first time instead of kicking my butt in the end.

Well it really depends on the power output goals. Personally I like nitrous and turbo in combination at the track. Makes for some wicked 1320 times

For 3K you can get a decent turbo kit and the appropriate tuning to go along with it. That will also leave some left over for the clutch and flywheel that I'd suggest swapping.

If the stock motor is in good shape it will reliably hold together 350-400whp if the tune is good. There are several ways to insure the life of the motor after the turbo install, but we can go into those later.

If your goals are more then 400whp then I'd definitly upgrade the internals. Which makes your 3K budget a little short.

How fast does he want to be? What WHP is he looking for.

With 350ish whp the S Chassis is a wicked fun car to drive.

Either way, welcome to the KAT forum I hope to see you and your better half frequent this forum for a long time to come

If I were to do it all over again I'd rebuild the internals myself, also change the oil pump and get a aftermarket oil pressure gauge. I lost the pump and tossed a rod through the block.

Eagle makes affordable rods, any forged piston will work and Emance is currently yhe go to ECU guy I guess. Cheap and works great, which is a winning combo in my book.

first before you decide on doing anything to an engine you need to check to make sure its still in pretty good condition. search around for how to do that. After you make sure its still in good condition i would go with turbo but thats just me.

I don't wanna be a d!ck, but we're talking about rebuilding the motor with forged internals. Kinda negates the checking of the motor since the only checking you can do is compression, which goes out the window as soon as you rebuild it.
