Just want to be sure before doing this. I read that you can spray carb cleaner in this intake. Do I scrub, or just spray and dry?

By the way, how does the intake look after 94,000 miles?

I think it was Jesda that wrote the how-to at Q45.org on this (Clean intake for $3..?.)

What is all that slime on throttle plate .................oil fron a cone filterYou spray special BG TB cleaner less volatile than brake cleaner more like kerosene gasoline mixture and use tooth brush and lots of rags to make every thing inside spotless.

The PCV is located on front of engine near coolant filler neck under cover, what you circled is just a metal adapter feeding a hose that does go to PCV T circuit.

I don't know what the slime is. I will sure clean it up though. What is BG TB Cleaner? Can you give me a name brand to look for?

I do not know the history of this car. My goal is to get everything working on it. Right now she's like a blank slate, everything stock - with a very straight body.

Dirty little Q.

BG is the manufacturer. Do a search on the internet. Everything Infiniti used to sell it, and they might still do. They are a sponsor to the right of this screen (or left).

Clean the entire intake hose system, as well as the filter box. Take it out of the car, for better access.

I bet your valve covers are leaking oil, based on the pictures. They are cheap, but take about 6 hours to replace. Do the spark plugs at the same time. ONLY BUY NGK plugs!!!!! DO NOT USE BOSCH PLUGS ON THIS CAR. The Q runs so lean, it melts the BOSCH plugs.

The VC gaskets are about $30 for both, burt the dealership labor cost is about $500. Once you do them on your own, you will have a great respect for the car, the engineers that designed it, and the technicians at the dealership.

Welcome to NICO!

Be very careful around the MAF. Clean it carefully, and clean the connectors.

The 1990 uses RTV gaskets vs. the rubber gaskets on 94+

You still need to order new "half moons" and round gaskets that go around the screws that hold the middle of the rocker cover down - but otherwise everything is liquid gasket (RTV). You can buy the Nissan orange stuff, or the Permatex Grey at your local parts place.

Remember the intake BEFORE the TB is hardly ever dirty. its BEHIND the throttle plate that gets dirty... you cant get it really clean without taking the TB off! I spent 15 mins cleaning the BACK of my TB once and it still was not good. 5 mins later i had taken the TB off, cleaned it and put it back on.....

You have to remove the black plastic thing on the front of the engine to see the PCV valve... it goes into a T fitting right on the coolant filler neck...

I knew this was too easy... I'll search for a way to remove the TB so I can really clean behind the butterfly valve-thing... Anyway, I took a pic to compare.

No searching to it... just remove the four allen screws on the corners... disconnect the throttle cables and that small coolant line and it's off! The reason I say this is to make sure you don't turn any other screws on the throttle body!

I just leave all that stuff connected except the throttel cable... undo the 4 bolts and then you can clean it right there without disconnecting anything else.. Just put a towel in the TB and under it so you dont get carb cleaner everywhere.
