hey ive been looking at swapping my sohc (187K miles)to a dohc kai just want to ask what should i be looking for when buying a good running motor.

what should i be looking at most when checking motor quality?what do u need to buy to get the motor up and running

i have a buy that will do the swap in a couple of hours he just siad buy everything i need to get it running

i dunno what should the motor cost and how much u think it would cost to pay for the install?

I think Compression test is what people do.regardless of the engine I would replace.

- Front and Rear main seals- Motor mounts. Hard ones will make your car viberate alot on higher rpm.- Valve Cover Gasket set if the engine looks dirty up the top (or at least use gasket maker with the old one)- Spark-plugs- Check for Waterpump and Thermostat. They're both inexpensive and good to replace before an old one breaks and wreck havoc on your engine.- Power Steering belt, Alternator belt. PITA if you do it AFTER swapping the engine.- Oil Pan Gasket. You might not believe it but you need to lift the engine up if you want to change it later.- Oxygen sensor. If it refuses to come off the exhaust manifold, just replace the damn thing with OBX knock-off from egay for $149 shipped.-

swapping in a DOHC KA is going to be a fun first time swap for you. you'll definitely learn a lot.

from what I recall, wiring is simply matching the colors. the ECU side just gets the wires matched color to color. some wires will be hanging loose, but those are mainly for the check engine light and consult (if your worried about emissions testing, hook those up). you need a DOHC cluster.

if you want to keep your power steering, you need a DOHC pump with all the lines. and if you plan on keeping AC, you need to evacuate the system, put the DOHC pump on as well as other accessories, and then of course, recharge the system.

the swap should take you about a day to do if you don't take smoke breaks or anything. i would definitely take my time on the first swap, and definitely make it fun by involving a friend. time goes by faster and work can go a little smoothly with a second educated opinion.

if you do enough of these, swaps should be painless, and before you know it, you'll be swapping SRs and KAs under 6 hours.

just search as much as you can, don't get intimidated, and have fun with it. you'll have a blast.

hmm ive been thinking about keeping my sohc for a while now and i think ive changed my mine on the dohc swap and just go i just want to learn to swap on a sohc first to get the feel of everything and plus i wouldnt need to change out to much

i just need a new water pump because everytime i turn on my ac it leaks like crazy right around the oil filter so maybe i might take the stupid ac out sence i dont ever turn it on

maybe someone can send me a link on sohc swaps?

o remember this im going sohc Tso what are things i can do to the sohc for a turbo prep?

how much do motor lifts go for?how much do sohc's cost?

i have to many question yes i no but hey the only way imma learn is by asking cause searching just isnt working out so well lol
