Wass crackinnn fellas?! Like the title says ... Proud owner of a 01QX4 for years now, with only 65k miles (pics to follow soon).

still learning how to do searches on here and was wondering if any seasoned forumers would direct me in the right direction as far as finding DIY's on the following:1) how to change the sparkplugs (do we need to adjust the plugs on this one? you know, with the round tool that can hang off your key for sparkplug spacing?)2) how to change the coils

any suggestions, tips, and feedback on the job is grately appreciated.

STEALER quoted over 1700 for this and i refuse. i will learn how to do this on my own before they get that kind of money out of me

THANK YOU in advance ya'll

Plugs are pull the coils out, blow the hole out with compressed air (you don'twant any dirt going in the engine though the spark plug hole), pull the plugwith a spark plug socket. No adjustment required. Do get the same NGKplatinum plugs.

But with 65K miles, you probably don't need to change the plugs. IIRC, theyare speced for 105K miles, and I think that's conservative. I replaced mine at about 90K because I was having a problem. It didn't fix the problem, whichturned out to MAF sensor, and the ones I took out looked good. These modernplugs, and having a coil per plug, means long plug life.

Coils are just do it. IIRC, remove a bolt, and pull a bit. IIRC, #1 coil is different. I'd put them back where they came from.

What makes you think you need to change the coils? What's the code?

Guess i should tell you that your car has 1-2 special spark plug tools in your spare tire kit

CT that's good info. On board with the NGK> It started with jerking and stalling so Autozone's code reader Id'd the MAF, which I changed. Then a few days later it happenned again so I took in to Infinity. The codes at the dealer mentioned coil 1 & 5 (can't find their receipt to tell you the exact codes). I got an independent foreign car mechanic to give it a second look and he said "after individually testing each coil, they determined the coils were fine and that it was one of the spark plugs at which point he recommended switching all".

An odd question for you is, what is "IIRC"?

I looked in the engine bay and pinpointed all the coils, looks like the driverside might be a bit tricky, but time and patience will get it done.

There's conflicting info on the tools and from reading a bit I gather the 3.5 doesn't come with the tool set under the rear seats becasue it doesnt use it since the 6th plug is not in the same spot as on the 3.3L. What are your thoughts on that? THANKS A MIL

If I Recall Correctly.

The 3.5 is a COMPLETELY different engine from the 3.3.

Now that I think about it, the plugs on the driver's side were a little fiddly.I had to take off some of the intake plumbing to get at one or two. Butnot a big deal.

plugs arnt bad unless your coil gets stuck. lol like what happened to mine.. I think it took me like 2 hours and that was just doing a lil here and a lil there. 3.3 takes like 20 min.. But i noticed a huge difference, my 3.5 has 117k now.

OK.. that settles it. I'm going to save about $1400 by doing this. Thanks alot CT. Going to order up the goods and probably get it done next weekend.

ha hammer is completely opposite of what you need, i got the shaft part of the coil (the part that was stuck in one of mine) out with a needle nose, i ripped the rubber boot thing in the process but i got the pieces out and reassembled the coil and used electrical tape to repair the torn boot.
