hi, ive never changed out a thermostat before. People tell me its supposed to be easy. i have a 89 hatch with stock motor. I believe the t-stat housing i located where the lower radiator hose connects to the block. Problem is theres alot of stuff blocking to path to remove the hose and the housing. What specifically am i suppossed to remove or is there another way around this?pretty much this is what i think is supposed to happen...-drain coolant-remove intakeafter that im not sure what im supposed to take off, any/all help will be appreciated.

move those things over till you get access to the thermo housing. not much of a ways around it.

I hope you have little hands. If you have the time and have a wicked temper like me, you might want to consider removing the radiator and fan.

The right combination of 10mm tools is a must though. If I recall I think you need a deepwell for one of the bolts. Here's a critical tip. When installing the new thermostat, make sure the little b@stard doesn't slip down and block the bottom bolt hole. That's good for 45 minutes of swearing and tool throwing.

After the install, please bleed the system properly when refilling the coolant.

make sure the thermostat is seated good or youll crack the housing.

that little rattling thing needs to be up,

and the fan shroud removed with some extensions should be good.

I don't remember it being that hard but I also didn't have all the stupid stock stuff in the way.
