stock the 1.9L is rated at 88HP/108TQ at the FLYWHEEL, i dyno'ed out at 113WHP/134WTQ (have the sheets hosted somewhere...just have to find them). is my car the fastest thing on the street, no. does my car piss lots of ricers of, **** yeah it does. as for forced induction on these cars it is DIRT ****ING CHEEP. the 85-86 escort EXP's came with a 1.6L turbo, that manifold will bolt onto ALL 1.9L SOHC(80's-96)/2.0L SOHC (97-newer 4door escorts) engines. you than take the 91-96 1.9L bottom end, bolt the 2.0L 8V SOHC head to it, that lowers your compression ratio to about 8.5:1, THAn bolt the EXP manifold up to the engine, and since the EXP used an IHI turbo you can use a larger probe/mx-6 turbo if you prefer. with this mutt motor 24LB injectors, and a high flow fuel pump you can run in excess of 15PSI. in case you think thats to much the 91-96 1.9L crank can handle 350HP, the rods around 280HP. dont believe me? check out this guys car, he built everything himself:
http://www.cardomain.com/id/jeffescortlxhe has right around 212WHP/262WTQ (no that torque number was NOT a typo) and running the STOCK 1.9L BOTTOM END
before he had the mutt engine he just had a 2.0L swapped in running only 8PSI, 167WHP and he was already running mid-14's.
now if you happen to own a 91-96 escort GT yours is powered by the venerable BP series of mazda motors.. and entirely different beast, but VERY potent
