so this Sunday my brother and i are bringing our cars to Rockfalls raceway drag strip. thing is, he just turned 18 and this will be his first drag experience, and me, this will be my first time racing a manual. (raced automatics before) thing is im not sure how to teach him to race

and on the best way to launch my 240 and his rx7 ?

oh yeah, is anybody else going this weekend to rockfalls? (eau claire, wisconsin, close to the twin cities), look for my car (see sig) and my brothers red FC, this should be fun beating his car to the finish line

launch higher than 2k. I saw best results launching as high as I could without getting too much wheel spin.

With my LSD if I'm getting on it I usually launch at 3kish so that I get enough wheelspin to not bog. You have more torque, but it's also harder to get wheelspin in a RWD... so I'd say around the same spot.

so, rev to about 3k and the drop the clutch when the second light goes out? i had the timing down when releasing the brake from a torque stand with the automatic, but how is the timing with the releasing of the clutch usually?

and what are the best shifting points?

I dunno about timing, never actually raced. My advice is from happyfun runs (alone) on backroads.

As far as shift points, I dunno too much about your powerband. I'd suggest you go somewhere before you race and take a couple of hard runs to find where your power drops off.

In my case, I shift at about 6k whenever I'm haulin, cause that's when the power drops off. With a KA though, I think 5k or maybe even lower has about the same effect.

and i wouldnt say drop the clutch, let it out quick though, but if you let it slam you might end up stalling

yeah, since i bought my car, i havent really wrung it out at all, im so satisfied with the low end grunt around town, and out of town on the hills/curvs, i dont ever see the need to rev it any higher then 4k MAX. i this is what confuses me, i know my car has gobs of grunt in the low end and that it drops off on the high end. so do i shift way early or wait till upper revs to shift, i just dont know whats gonna give the best times, and this will prolly be this cars only drag day, so i dont have alot of passes to figure out what = best times. but i did figure that my brother would just be ringing the hell out of that rotary, shiftin in the red.

wow i wail on my car any chance i get...i mean why not? that's what it's there for...i hear cars actually like to be run at WOT more just because it'll burn away carbon buildup and keep the engine running strong

as for KA shift points...just shift around redline

and last time i launched my 240 hard i feathered the clutch at around 4.5k rpms...heh

I like to lanch at 3500. I ****f at 4500-5000 to use the ka's good torque for the 1 2 shift. then for 2 to 3 6500 and same for 3 to 4.
