Hey guy's i was browsing and am still up in arms about a SR20 swap in my 91 Hatch, The Turbo on the KA motor is interesting to me as i browse through this forum, now without sounding totally stupid i want to know how you guy's "tune" your cars after your turbo is mounted? special program? and ive seen reference to people using Ford Cobra MAF sensors now if you just jam one of these on won't the PCM notice something is wrong and restrict fuel or since it's OBD-1 does it send that ref. signal to pulse the Injectors without care to the out of range voltage from the Different MAF sensor. And the Boost you create is judged by the type of BOV and when the Wastegate opens, right? I havent messed around with Turbo powered vehicles much and would like to know more on how you guy's adapt Turbo's to the KA and make them survive. Thanks alot and sorry for the Noob question!

there are many programs to controll fuel/ign. the most common is a jwt reflash. another is using piggyback electronics combined like a safc and a msd btm. more advanced are complete standalone systems that replace your stock ecu and allow adjustment of every parameter. all require bigger injectors and a bigger flow meter if necessary (not sure what the threshold of stock ka mafs is, anyone?). you cant run different injectors or a different maf unless the pcm will be able to recognize and adjust fuel accordingly. in other words you cant change either on a stock ecu.

a wastegate controls how much psi the turbo makes, a bov releases pressured air after the throttle plate closes that would otherwise bounce back into the turbo potentially harming it (compressor surge). you dont absolutely need a bov, but you definitely need a wastegate.....btw, i suck at explaining... I probably confused you more than i helped.
