noob question on exhaust

i'm planning on buying a muffler and if i just buy the muffler without the piping say at Midas or a local shop will it help my car breathe better, or will it still be restrictive because i didn't change the piping?

If you buy a straight-through muffler it will probably free it up a little, but not enough to do anything. With the stock converter, stock pipe, and resonator it will keep things choked up.

Above all, it will just make you sound like a bumble bee.

no gains really, thats just for sound

you have to get the whole pipe changed, and really then you wont feel a difference, unless you start looking at high power and boost
