Ok, I'm not turbo yet but I'm planning for it and I need some info. I searched but didn't find what I needed. I'd like to know what are the practical differences between the top mount turbo manifolds and the buttom mounted ones?

I prefer the look of the buttom mounts... the engine bay looks less cluttered to me. But most people seem to use the top mount. Y? Is there a performance difference between the two styles or is it something else?

it can depend on turbo size.

A t25/28 is smaller and will fit easier in a bottom mount.a larger turbo MAY require a top mount to fit.

Ohhh! So, it's an issue of space! That was easy! Thanks!

Um... but wait... Ivan uses a buttom mount on his 7sec ka and that turbo is huge! What about that?

that's why i said a larger turbo MAY require a top mount.

AMS did their manifold extremely well so everything still fits. It's a choice of buying a premade turbo which comes bottom mount for t2 stuff, or usually a top mount for larger.

If you've got the money to go all out and get a great mani or custom fab one, You could figure out how to mount it anywhere you please.

Hmm, I see... there is alot to consider when selecting a turbo... Got any ideas where I can look to find Nissan's OEM turbo specs and which manifolds would be best for mounting them? I searched Nico and Google with no luck. I want to see the info for myself instead of just copying someone elses setup...

On the other hand, I just read the Turbo 101 article and I think I want a t3/t04 which seems ever so popular (with good reason!) But I can't find something that tells me exactly what kinds of turbos the s13, s14, s15 are and if they come in this configuration. I know the names t25 and t28, but what is the s15's? I don't know jack about the RB's or VG's turbos...

Where can I find this info? I'm willing to research and read, I just don't know where else to look...

If you are going with the t3/t4 you wont be able to find that on a nissan car, you will need to buy it from an aftermarket dealer, or pick one up used somewhere.

The turbos off other nissan engines are typically to small to run as a single turbo on a Ka. That being said, plenty of people use them, and they work fine. Thing is, they become heat pumps after 10-12 psi of boost.

The s15 turbo has a bb t28. The RB25 came with a single, t3 t25 sized turbo. RB26 were duels, and tiny. VG turbos were the same way, twins, and small.

If i were you id save up 3 grand and do your setup right. Garrett t3/t4, 50 trim .63 ar, a nice manifold, and all the trimmings to go along with it.

a good turbo setup gets pricey. I spent $300 on lines and fittings for the turbo and oil cooler lines

Top mount: easier to install/remove, more bling, more heat into your BMC,

Bottom mount: harder to install/remove, less bling, less chances of melting your BMC, lower center of gravity
