Mechanically Im a noob, I have never worked hands on, on a car before, and I just bought myself a 240, it runs well except, there is this thing it does. The guy I bought it off said to mess with the timing and it should be fine, but I am a noob and don't know how exactly to do this. When you give the car too much throttle the rpms start going down until you let off enough, in order to accelerate quickly you must give it some throttle, and let the rpms catch up and then repeat. Is this because of the timing, if so if anyone could give me a detailed explanation with pictures if possible on how to fix it, also sometimes when you're under 2k rpms it feels like the car wants to die, but 2k rpms and up and its totally fine.

Wow sounds like it could be a lot of things.

It could be the timing. I don't know how to set timing on the KA24 bu a google search of ka24de or ka24e timing will give all the answers you need.

It also sounds like it could be the clutch. Is this a manual or a auto?

And as far as being a noob don't worry about it. This place has all the good write ups.

I literally removed and reinstalled my sr head and dropped my own motor by reading these write ups all by myself with no help. You can too.

Its a manual, but it's definitely not the clutch, because the guy I bought it from said he had just put in a stage 1 clutch, but looks like I'm going to start doing some research on the timing, hopefully with enough time, like you, I should be able to do it myself. Thanks a lot for the encouragement!

I agree...this forum literally has everything you would ever need. You can go from noob to motor swap master in a few months. Just search and search and search. I have rarely ever posted b/c I have found everything I needed somewhere buried in this site.

How to set timing on ka24de
1.start car up and let warm up
2. Turn car off and unplug your throttle position sensor (its the grey plug that connects to the sensor on your throttle body)
3.start car up and make sure your rpms are between 600-800
4. Loosen the 2 10mms hex head bolts on the distributor
5. Follow the directions for you specific timing light usually hook the clamp on the #1 spark plug wire and adjust the gun to zero
6. Point the light at the crank pulley and twist the distributor till the timing pin on the actual engine lines up with the second to last mark on the right (driver side when facing the motor)
7.tighten the distributor back down and shut the car off
8.plug your tps back in and start the car and let it idle for 20 seconds and shut it off again.
9.done

Also check the fuel pump for the right pressure. And make sure all your grounds are clean and tight in the engine bay. Next check your fuel pressure regulator. Is it hard to start after you drive it? Could be a leaky injector. Start with the cheap easy stuff first.
