Hello all, I'm a noob and just wanted to say what a great forum, with lots of great information. I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer. I am looking at a 97 Q45T that has 153,000 miles on it. I was wondering how many miles you can get out of this car if it has been well maintained. I performed a search and didn't really find much.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forum

Unfortunately our search function on the forum can be a bit tricky to use at first as its different than most other boards..

At any rate, 153k is no biggie on a Q.. It really depends on the maintenace history. Take note of EVERY fluid... ATF, Oil, etc etc..

If all that is good, add you a transmission cooler, and just keep maintaining the thing and i dont see any reason why at 150k, its life is only half over.

Thanks for your reply elwesso. I was pretty certain that if it was well maintained it should go another 150,000.

Thanks again.

Every fluid ! ...and take it over to an Autozone or something and see if it has any codes that you need to fix right away. Good luck. I bet you'll like this car alot, everybody who has a Y33 seems to like it and seem to complain less about fixing it

Sometimes I'm kind of bored because nothing break down for me to fix, so I tend to mess around with other stuffs try to improve the performance. I been having the '97 Q for a bit more than 3 years and cover 60,000 miles. I have no doubt that my '97 Q will reach 300,000 miles mark, just don't know when.

An add-on aftermarket transmission fluid cooler should be a very good investment/insurance. Other than that, just keep a good maintenance habit the the car shall work hard to return you back every penny you spent on it.

EVERY automatic transmission can benefit from a transmission cooler. The single most detremental foe of an automatic transmission, is the fluid temperature. My Corvette even has a transmission fluid temperature gauge. An auxilliary cooler helps when you are sitting in heavy traffic, on a hot day. It hurts a bit on cold mornings, and you will need to warm-up the car abit more before WOT shifting.

It has been discussed, re-discussed, argued, discussed again, then some more discussion has been brought up about it.

The SEARCH button is your friend. There are even how-to steps on how to install one. For a $100 bill, you can extend the life of your $3000 transmission about doublefold. Synthetic fluid is the second most life-extender.

Besides all the other good advice, always obtain a copy of the Infiniti dealer performed service history before inspecting any Infiniti as this will give you (and the Infiniti Senior technician doing the pre-sale inspection) a good idea of where to look and what to expect in immediate deferred maintenance expenses.
