Noob ? How do I know if VTC is working or working correctly w/ S14 SR?

I've been driving my S14 SR powered '96 SE for about 2 months now, and it just hit me...... Is the VTC working? And if so, is it working correctly? I can't feel or "hear" a difference. I know it's not the same as VTEC, but I could at least discern audibly when it switched over.

VTC starts working between approx 1050 and 5700 RPM's and not at redline. All it does is give a slight increase in low and midrange torque which the S13 SR lacks at low throttle. I seriously doubt you could hear the difference of it being engaged or not enganged because it is enganged constantly between those RPM's. Though if you wanted to know if its working simply unplug the solenoid and see if you can tell a power difference.

If I recall it should be a gold solenoid with a purple connector up near the intake camshaft sprocket, sticking out the side of the head.

It should have a two pin connector that may or may not have the colors brown and yellow.

But I havent worked on an S14 SR for a few months so I may be mistaken.
