Hello all:I am a noob to this site. I recently purchased a '97 hardbody. It seems to need a tuneup pretty bad, but overall is in really good shape. Are there any specific things to look for in the 2.4L engine as far as trouble signs?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.....Dave

These trucks have a great, albeit underpowered engine with a timing chan instead of a belt, and little to fuss with.

Start with a basic tuneup - plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, and see how that goes. An hour of work should have it running pretty good provided all sensors are good. Is the check engine light on?

Welcome to Nico.

The truck seems to smooth out after you get the rpms up, and makes power ok, but at an idle and low rpms its a dog....

I RECOMMEND CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY FIRST. IF ITS A 4X4 ITS JUST A DOG AND 17 MPG.

Well take it to autozone to find out what's triggering the CEL and then work from there. As said before just start with the basic tune up stuff and a TB cleaning may be in order. Idk about injector cleaning or anything like that, but changing/flushing the fluids(oil, coolant, etc) and getting some fresh stuff in there can help a bit as well.
